Carpet of Adhesion thoughts?

I had a bad experience as a GM a couple of years ago.

A player who I know fairly well wanted to play in a game of Rifts a Heroes Unlimited speedster. Most powerful and much faster than a Hyperion juicer.
I went along with it because I did not want to fight about it. When the others are basically normal power level, it makes things very hard on me.

To make things challenging, I had a spell caster cast a number of Carpet of Adhesion spells as traps. The speedster ran right through an area with one of those carpets. The player then trhew a fit, stating that the carpet should have been visible and that the spell is too powerful being invisible.

Thoughts?

The carpet of adhesion is described as a sticky fly trap like goo, however, if the speedster had the superpower that Im thinking (superhuman or supersonic speeds) then he wouldn't have time to react as the area is rather small for someone traveling at mach 1 or even more. The damage from the inertial stop would be excruciating ;-)

sounds more like he's upset that his OP character ran into something he couldn't escape thru speed (and yes, the pun was intentional  )

For a moment I was was wondering if my character Lori would be able to spot one (Leyline Walkers can 'see' concentrations of magic), but the spell costs 10 PPE, and she can only see concentrations of 20 PPE or more, so no dice :P . Actually I think I picked up a Carpet of Adhesion goblin grenade at some point...

Anyways, the whole point of it is that you can't see it, nobody would walk into it if it was visible.

In Heroes unlimited, I believe sufficient strength lets you tear free like if you made the save (or in half the time if you do make the save), but HU magic is considerably weaker than Rifts'.
