Darl

Harvey rushes back and quickly gathers up the rest of his gear and, after thanking Darl, runs to catch back up to Dan and John.

Darl bids Belle goodbye and heads back towards town as Belle and Jonesy head on the road towards Newhome and Worldgate. As he walks towards town, a soft voice can be heard off to his right. "Daaaral..." Just the one drawn out word; barely audible. So soft that for a moment Darl wonders if it was a trick of the wind. Looking that direction, Darl sees nothing but the shanty houses.

Knowing that the rest of his party was still hours behind him, Darl considers the voice briefly. Noone else here would know his name ... it had to be a trap of some sort.

Turning to his left, he strides in amongst the shanty-town houses away from the voice while preparing a spell, quickly stepping behind the first one that is tall enough to hide him from the street and houses on the other side.

As soon as he is hidden from view, he casts his dimensional envelope spell and steps inside ... hoping to essentially 'disappear', at least from the perspective of whoever had just called him, while at the same time buying himself a couple hours alone to inspect his recent acquisitions and plan his next move.

Darl steps through the doorway and into...

OOC: Just realized that I've never really thought about how the inside of a D-envelope works. What's your interpretation on how it looks? Is it light inside? Just a gray void?

OOC: Hmmm ... I don't think it's ever come up!!! I'll take a peek through Megaverse Builder and get back to you tonight.

OOC: Well, that just gave more options instead of clarifying anything.

Let's just go with 'invisible force field-like walls, which hold the misty cloulds of the void at bay. No visible light source, but plenty of ambient light. If it was within his power, Darl would want to generate one without air, as well ... just to increase the 'privacy factor'.

OOC: Sorry, the description specifically states that there is enough oxygen for a couple people for a couple hours. The rest of the description is similar, and better, than what I was thinking.

IC:
A shimmer in the air, hopefully only visible to Darl, appears before him and expands itself into a doorway into a void. Darl steps into the void and the doorway closes behind him. To anyone watching he appeared to just disappear between steps.

Sitting down inside the grey void Darl first examines the staff. It is a black wooden staff with thin streaks of metal running down most of the length of the staff. There is a thin, almost imperceptible, line circles the wood up near the top of the staff where the strips of metal terminate. They are consistent with the construction of a techno wizard staff.

Next, Darl pulls out the orb. It is consistent with the description that Father Malaki gave the group at the start of this little adventure. It is roughly the size of a child's kick ball. It's weight and feel would suggest it is solid stone, pink in color. Even with the dim light in the dimensional envelope, it seems to have an internal shimmer that gives it a bottomless feel. It is amazingly, perfectly round.

Placing the orb back into his dimensional pocket, Darl turns his attention to the two bloodstones he received from Harvey. Studying each, he compares it to his own and attempts to determine the particular functionality of each. (OOC: Lore Magic, Lore Wormwood, past experience, etc.) If not able to determine specifically, he attempts to first draw some PPE out of each stone, and then channel a bit of PPE in, and attempts to ascertain their purpose based on what happens.

Putting them away, he then turns his attention to the TW staff. With his gear backed into a corner of the mini dimension, and shielding it with his body, he holds the staff a full arm's length out from his body and pointed away from him ... and cautiously channels some PPE into the device to activate it. Knowing that John accidently lit the entire church on fire with this device, he half anticipates some sort of spectacular result ...

If all goes smoothly, he finds he is not able to hold back his curiosity any further. Bringing the orb back out of it's hiding place, he studies it for a number of long minutes. Racking his brain, looking for any hint at to just what makes this object so special, he does everything he can think of to gain some insight, including opening himself up to the orb's mystical energies, and attempting to draw PPE from it. For a minute, he considers channeling some energy the other direction ... but then lets good sense get the better of him, and returns the orb to it's hiding spot before taking advantage of his 'alone time' and attempting to sneak in an hour or so of meditation to replace some of the energy he had just expended.

The two stones in Darl's hands are small and a deep red in color. They appear to be the same as the healing stone he has hanging around his neck. As expected, trying to feed or withdraw PPE from the stones has no effect. To confirm his suspicion that they are healing stones he would have to have someone that's injured to try them on or some sort of priest to check them out.

Turning his attention to the TW staff, Darl holds it a full arm's length out from his body and points it away from him and channels a small amount of PPE into it. The staff seems to absorb the PPE, but nothing else happens. {OOC: I'm going to assume 1PPE to begin with since you didn't specify. Let me know if you want to try for more...and how much more. After we've dealt with the staff, I'll move on to the orb. Need to see if you blow yourself up first or not. :lol: }

OOC: Let's try 4, 10, 15, and then stop. Also, using Lore:Magic as required for the typical means of engaging a TW item. ;)

Darl theorizes that the staff is likely one of two different types of TW devices. The first type requires PPE to charge up the device periodically and then the device can be used by anyone whether wizard or not. Typically, a weapon of this sort would require some sort of trigger to make it discharge. The second type of device requires a certain minimum PPE to activate the device and then it remains active for a certain duration. The fact that the one PPE pumped into it was absorbed by the staff would make it seem likely that this weapon is of the former type. This is further confirmed by the fact that pumping additional, and increasing, PPE creates no reaction.
