Lysanthra grabs up a small portion of biscuits and gravy along with a few meatballs. She usually avoids potato chips just because they are crunchy. Everything smells amazing so Liz digs in right away. She figures she's going to need energy if they encounter any problems here.

Brad takes some of everything, enjoying the fruit of the chefs' labor. In response to Sam's blurted comment, he tilts his head as he thinks it over and replies, "That sounds fair, I'm willing to help."

Larry is off to the side, organizing watch parties, creating a warning system in lieu of anything wandering up the mountain. Once complete, his workers pour in to grab some food.

Frank leans back, proud of himself. He's made the perfect amount of food for everyone.

Near the watch group, someone shouts out, "We have movement down the slope!"

At the call from the sentries, Brad puts down his food and rushes back to his truck to grab his laser rifle before joining Steve, Larry and several of his laborers. He sees it too, something just behind a thicket of trees and bushes. It carefully moves slowly around the area, but never moves suddenly. It's obscured by the cover of darkness and vegetation.

OOC: Tyler, you still playing? Need thoughts and ideas from Frank too.

Brad tries to estimate how far away the thicket is. He's got a flashlight in his truck, but would be of any real use here? Maybe driving the Mountaineer over and pointing the headlights down the slope...

Brad sights down his rifle towards the movement, wishing it came with a scope.

At this point he doesn't have many options but to wait and see what happens

Brad sights down his rifle towards the movement, wishing it came with a scope. After a moment, Liz joins the observing group, a strange energy pistol tight in her grip. A low, uneasy stillness settles over him, like one of those moments where the world feels like it’s holding its breath, waiting to see what he will do, even though he has no real choices left. All he can do is watch as the brush shivers. Then, like a flock of ghosts startled awake, a herd of deer bursts out, hooves drumming the hillside as they streak across the slope and vanish into the next wall of tangled green.

Steve exhales through his nose, half‑annoyed, half‑hungry. “Dinner…” He lifts a finger toward the fleeing shapes. “For tomorrow.”

Larry doesn’t even look away from the brush. “Where’s your gun, Mr. Campbell?”

Steve shrugs, sheepish. “I… I don’t like killing ’em. I just like eating ’em.”

Larry turns to Brad with a dry smirk. “Can you kill one with that thing? Or is it one of those tank‑busting toys?” He barely finishes the sentence before the hillside answers for him. A single, ragged scream tears through the brush; high, wet, and abruptly cut short. Something out there is feeding, and whatever it is, it didn’t bother waiting for introductions.

The forest goes still again, as if listening, like it's expecting the next sound to come from them.

To Larry, Brad chuckles and says, "I can hit one, but there wouldn't be much left. I use my bow when I want to hunt for the pot."

after the sound of the deer dying, Brad shudders a bit, and comments, "Most predators only hunt when they're hungry, so hopefully whatever that was is satiated for this evening."

Brad chuckles. “I can hit one, but there wouldn’t be much left. I only use my bow when I’m hunting for the pot.” He shudders as the deer’s dying cries echo up the mountainside. “Most predators only hunt when they’re hungry. So hopefully whatever that is will be satisfied for the night.”

“I hope you’re right,” Larry mutters, heading back toward the food.

Brad listens a moment longer. Whatever is tearing into that deer sounds big, with its growling, wet chomps carrying across the dark. A few of Larry’s workers shift uneasily as the deer’s shrieks drag on, desperate and horrible.

Back at camp, Maya asks Liz if she has any ginseng tea. Lysanthra knows that she can brew something close with black tea. A few seconds later, Steve calls out, “Hey, Frank! You got anything hard to drink?”

Frank can’t help feeling a warm satisfaction as he watches the whole camp enjoying his cooking; finally appreciated for something that’s his alone. Now he just has to figure out what to make for breakfast.

Brad makes a silent prayer that whatever is out there is just a regular animal, not some demonic monstrosity. but all he same, he'll be keeping his guns close to hand tonight.

He wanders back to finish his food.

After finishing his food Frank will start cleaning up. When he hears the warning from the lookout he will start packing his utensils up to be ready to move out if necessary. "Hey Johnny, do you have a gun because i don't? Let's be ready in case its something serious." After a bit Frank will pull out a hard cider for anyone that wants one. "Don't want to pass out anything too hard until we're closer to....well people, but I do have a bottle saved for when we get there and another for when we get home safe." Before heading to bed Frank will prepare ingredients to make omelets or breakfast burritos in the morning. Then set his alarm to be up early to have the food ready for when the others wake up.
