"Oh yeah that's up next." Frank says while heading to claim his prizes. "Are you doing the pole climb too or just the greased hog?" Frank goes to where he can change his clothes and then comes back ready for the grease events. Looking at Johnny, "Well, I'm ready how about you?"

"Oh yeah, that's up next." Frank says while heading to claim his prizes. "Are you doing the pole climb too or just the greased hog?"
"I'm gonna do both," he cheers, "That way we have more stuff, and possibly free food!"
Frank walks up to the prize booth. They hand him two credits and ask, "Which would you like" The gift basket or free months rental from Belle's stables?" Frank knows that the gift basket tends to be random items from each business in town. Megana's family has always been supportive of his parents saloon, even if they don't drink often.
OOC: Ill let you decide which is better.
Frank goes to where he can change his clothes and then comes back ready for the grease events. Looking at Johnny, "Well, I'm ready how about you?"
"Yep! I will change into the greaser clothes after, they're better than what I have," Frank agrees with Johnny, he tends to wear clothes until they're practically falling off of him.
The two head to the greaser games. Where at least twenty others are waiting. The games are free and sponsored by Lord Stein, who loves watching people struggle with both events. The grease is deceptively slick, making it nearly impossible to accomplish a few feet of the climb until prior climbers wipe it nearly clean. The greased pig run is more dangerous though. The pigs have been known to sense that it's their last hour alive and will fight. Frank has seen these 600 to 700 pound beasts injure several people per year.
An audience begins to gather around the pole, which is thickly greased down. Starting at almost neck level for Frank, is a slip of paper. He knows that the paper is only worth one credit. About two feet higher is the two credit slip. Every two feet after that the value of each slip is more until it reaches twenty credits (5, 10, 12 15 and then 20), then it's every five feet for increments of twenty five, fifty and one hundred credits. But this year, there are two extra slips. There is one at about forty feet up, worth 250 credits, and one at the very top, worth 1000 credits. No one has ever gotten to one hundred credits, let alone the two above it.
Lord Stein arrives, "Everyone please prepare for the climb. Every extra attempt will cost one credit. Are there any questions?"

Frank will take a few moments to concentrate and plan out the best way to attempt the pole while waiting for his turn. "Well here goes nothing I guess." He says before making his first attempt.
OOC: Frank will use the 2 credits he won from previous event for 2 additional attempts.

Johnny diligently watches the basket as Frank gets ready to climb.
Frank takes a few moments to concentrate and plan out the best way to attempt the climb. Frank runs multiple scenarios in his head as Lord Stein picks a young kid to go first. The poor kid leaves, crying, covered in grease from a failed climb to one credit. Frank notices that some of the grease wiped off with the kids clothes. The next kid had the same idea as he jumps and wraps his legs tight and snags the first slip and just barely grabs the two credit slip as he slides down.
Lord Stein then picks a rather obese, short lady to try. She starts away from the pole and sprints at it, taking an enormous leap and tries to grab the five credit slip, only to bash her face off of the pole and fall. A single line of grease spans from her left cheek down to her crotch, ruining her clothes and adding to her makeup.
A taller man is next. The man avoids the jumping tactic and walks up to the pole, reaches up as high as he can and scrapes as much grease off as he can. He fails to wipe the grease off of his hands as he attempts the climb and fails. His attempt restored half of the grease back onto the pole.
The next person, a rather strong, average height and weight individual is up next. He only accomplishes being able to reach where the two credit slip once was. Two more people try after him, only to fail. Finally, a young kid, who's maybe nine years old manages to climb up and grab the five credit slip, he fails to get any higher.
Three more people miserably fail. Then it's Frank's turn. "Well here goes nothing, I guess." He says before making his first attempt. He walks up, scrapes as much grease off as he can and wipes his hands as clean as possible onto his disposable clothing. He then hops up and grabs the pole and begins climbing. One foot short of the ten credit slip is a struggle. The grease is still thick up there and he only manages to spread it around. He tries one last effort to lunge up hard to grab the slip, only to barely brush the paper and slide back down, empty handed.
OOC: Two more attempts left.

Frank will try to get as much grease off of himself before his next attempt.

Frank will try to get as much grease off of himself before his next attempt. In doing so, Johnny gets called up. He makes a valiant attempt by running from the edge of the crowd, then back and jumping to try and get as high as he can. He grips the pole, manages not to slide and grasps the ten credit coupon. He then climbs for the 15 credit slip and slips down.
Another person from the crowd decides to climb the pole, with nice clothes, only to regret it as he only makes it to where the five credit coupon would have been. Several other people attempt and fail. Then, a young girl climbs the pole and grabs the fifteen credit coupon. Frank feels like this is going to be much more difficult as the girl almost reaches the twenty credit coupon but falls, landing with a hard thud and, "ooof!"
Lord Stein then points past Frank at Dane, "You're next, my boy!" Frank hadn't even seen Dane and Miss Hoffman show up. He's dressed in painted blue jeans that are too short and a ridiculous looking torn red tshirt.

OOC: Don't knock it 'til you try it. Dane's trying to set a fashion trend. I call it "Chicken Leg's à la Monet". Dane's 5'8" and 110 lbs. wet.

Dane studies the greased pole for a long moment, arms crossed, lips pressed in a doubtful line. He circles it once, taking in the shine, the angle, and the mess at its base. After a short sigh, he wipes his hands on the jeans and kicks off his shoes, deciding bare feet might give him a better chance.
“Alright,” he mutters, “low and slow.”
He presses in close, wrapping his arms and legs around the pole rather than just grabbing at it. He tests the surface, shifts his grip, and looks up toward the top as if measuring the distance. His plan is simple. He moves a few inches at a time, keeps his balance, and relies on his legs more than his hands. He tucks his chin, takes a breath, and starts to climb. He nearly makes it to where the fifteen credit coupon was and slips down. He catches himself before touching the ground and climbs all the way back up and tries to clear the grease at twelve feet up, but ends up miscalculating and slides down to the ground.
Three dozen more people fail at reaching the twenty credits. Only a handful make it past the fifteen credit spot. One poor young native boy nearly makes it to the twenty credits, only to lose his grip and land backfirst on the grass. Some of the spectators promptly place the kid on a jury rigged gurney and haul him towards the clinic.
"Gosh, I hope he's okay!" Lord Stein comments. He looks around and asks, "Has anyone NOT tried that would like to?" No one shouts or raises their hand, "Okay then, round two of competitors who've paid for more tries." He looks through his list on some sort of mobile digital notebook. "Frank! You're up next!"

OOC: Moving this along. This post is copied to both Dane and Frank's threads.
Frank gets ready, making sure his hands and clothes are as clean as possible of grease.
"Come on, Frank!" Johnny cheers, "You've got this!"
Frank gets up next to the pole, hops up and begins climbing. He steadily climbs and makes it near where the fifteen credit coupon was, but slides down. Like Dane, he catches himself sliding back down. Then inches his way back up, coming inches from the twenty credit slip, only to slide to the bottom. He knows he has one more attempt.
A few others unsuccessfully attempt, but also fail.
Dane makes his second attempt. Trying the same tactic that he did last time, he makes it to the twenty credit slip, feels himself slipping out of control and lunges for the slip. He gets it! Unfortunately, he plummets back first to the ground. He knows that it's going to hurt as he slaps into the ground. Even bystanders groan, "Oh! That's gotta hurt!" as he feels a few of his vertebrae pop, but nothing serious. He tries to regain his breath, but the wind is knocked out of him. He feels Meg touch his face as his vision slowly returns. "Oh no! Dane, are you okay?"
OOC: Dane was pretty high up. -8 SDC Like Frank, failed climb, but went for a last ditch strike to grab the ticket. Got a 19, which is enough to get his fingers on that small piece of paper.

Frank before his final attempt will roll his pants up to expose more bare skin for friction. oO(maybe if I get my pants rolled just right the fabric will allow for better traction while climbing)Oo Frank thinks over his game plan one last time and starts his final attempt.
