"That makes sense." Seeing everyone else getting ready, he quickly adds, "Looks like we better hurry. Sorry I made us late." He proceeds to the registration desk and offers to pay for them both.
The signup lady laughs, "It's free, Dane. Just like every year." She nods to Meg, "With everyone doing the obstacle course this year, they think it costs. But if you win, then you'll each get a credit!"
"Oh!" Meg feigns excitement, "That's exciting!" She leans into whisper into Dane's ear, "We still have about five to ten minutes. What do you want to do?"

“Ah, didn’t know it was free. First time doing this in a while. Thanks.”
Dane glances around at the others getting set up, buying himself a few seconds to think. After a consideration, he says, “Looks like most of them are already getting ready. Maybe we should… y’know, tie ourselves together and give it a try?”
His eyes flick down toward her leg, and he swallows, suddenly very aware of how close they’ll be.

"Ooo yeah!" She cheers, "Some practice would be good!" she adds as she sticks her ankle next to his. "We should interlock our arms together too!"
OOC: Sorry for the weak post... waiting for others to catch up.

For a second, Dane forgets how to breathe. His brain trips over itself trying to decide whether to process the kiss, the grass in his mouth, or the fact that half the town probably just saw it happen. He nervously licks his lips and tastes a hint of iron from the blood on hers. “Uh—yeah,” he finally manages, blinking up at her. “Third place. Not bad for amateurs.”
"Yeah," she smiles down, straddling him, not letting him move. "We mesh well together!" blood still on her teeth.
He lowly laughs; a little breathless from the run and the kiss. He's hoping it sounds casual. It doesn’t. oO(Lame)Oo he thinks, still trying to navigate this unknown territory of human connection. Lost for a moment in her eyes, he finally murmurs, “So, I’ll… uh… get us untied then.” Forcing himself to look away, he bends down to work at the knot binding their legs. He doesn't notice her fondly watching him, yet, grimacing at his awkwardness.
"Yeah," she replies as he nervously fumbles with the knot, "I can do it if you want."
"Woah! You two can come up for air," Dane hears Steve, only to notice that he means Megana and Sam, whom are making out, standing just a few feet away. He hears Johnny tell Frank that the sack races are next.
Meg perks as she continues to let Dane fumble with the now concrete hard knot holding them together, "Wanna?" she gestures towards where the sack races will be at, "Or we could watch Brad and Kendal on the course. Or we could both go get massages at the spa tent! or... something else..." She genuinely sounds excited to spend time with Dane.

Looking a little embarrassed, Dane stops fumbling with the hopeless knot and glances up at Meg again. There’s a short, awkward pause as he studies her face, running through possible responses in his head. Finally, he settles on a course of action.
“You know,” he says with mock seriousness, “this would probably be easier if you weren’t sitting on me.”
He flashes an impish smile, then—on impulse—takes her gently by the shoulders and rolls them over so that he’s the one on top. “After you get us out of this knotty predicament…” The unintentional double entendre hits him a second too late, and he stumbles over what he’d so carefully planned. “I mean… uh, yeah… maybe we go for a walk and see where it takes us. Or… something.”

She laughs, looking up into his eyes, "Okay, I like the sound of that." Her light eyes and hair, along with her slightly bloody smile, almost seems angelic as he moves aside. She sits up, grabs a part of the rope sticking out and gives it a hard tug, causing the knot to just release and fall loosely to the ground. Before Dane can really react, she grabs him by the shirt and pulls him back on top, saying, "One more." She kisses him passionately, unlike anything he'd ever imagined or even cared to imagine. Then as fast as it started, she rolls him to the side and sits up, sheepishly asking, "Where to?"

Dane lays there for a heartbeat, staring up at the sky in stunned silence. A thought flickers across his befuddled mind. .oO Is it wrong that I really want her to do that again? Oo.
He turns his head toward her. “We could wander over to the Ferris wheel. You afraid of heights?”
Rolling onto his stomach, he pushes himself up and then offers her a hand. When she takes it, he doesn’t let go—just starts walking with her toward the rides, still trying to figure out whether his pulse is racing from the sprint… or from her.

He smiles back at her "Of course, I will always keep you safe." .oO Wait, what did I just say? I hope she doesn't read too much into that. Or maybe I hope that she does. Oo.
Rolling onto his stomach, he pushes himself up and then offers her a hand. When she takes it, he doesn’t let go; he just starts walking with her toward the rides, still trying to figure out whether his pulse is racing from the sprint… or from her.
She follows along with, "Dane, what are you thinking about?"
“Hm?” He blinks, realizing he’s been lost in thought while they walked — trying to tuck everything back into logical little boxes. But the truth is settling in: some things, like emotions, don’t fit neatly anywhere. He’s not happy about that realization.
He’s always been good at analyzing things until they make sense. It’s how he coped when his mom died — learning to stash the pain away in some tidy corner of his mind labeled
feelings. But now, between Kendal and Meg, it’s like he’s been strapped into an emotional roller coaster: rounding the corner of
confused, through the loop of
fear, and climbing the heights of
exhilaration. He worries that next comes the plummet —
disappointment — when Meg realizes he’s just
Dane: the geeky, awkward kid from the library.
Pushing his doubts aside for the moment, he exhales and says, “I was thinking about you. And how much I’m enjoying being with you.” He lifts her hand slightly and gives it a gentle squeeze. “Your hand is warm. I like that. It feels… comfortable.” He hesitates, searching for the right word. “No… it feels
right.” as if that explains it all.
