Dane goes quiet, thinking through the implications before speaking. The pause stretches just a little too long, enough to feel awkward in the room. .oO If I disclose what we learned from the tablet, he could run straight to the Sheriff. If I deny everything, he’ll read it as concealment. Better to test what he knows first. Oo. A small part of his brain here's the other conversation, but only a small portion of his mind considers the implications before dismissing it as a problem that doesn't need immediate attention, even though he and Meg are quite a few years apart too.

He adjusts his stance and answers carefully. “From your wording, I infer that scheduling major matches this close together is outside the usual pattern. A straightforward explanation would be projected revenue. A less comfortable one is that Lord Stein had a stronger interest in the outcome than was publicly obvious.” He pauses, watching Marty’s face before adding, “Do you have specific evidence that supports your suspicions, or is this a timing-and-instinct feeling?”

"EH?" Megana double takes Emily, "Hun, this is not the time and place for asking that. Plus he's much older than you, youngster," Megana sighs at Sam, "Kid has a crush on Steve and asked me how to ask him out..."

"You know, age is just a number..." Emily growls.

"It sure is, till Steve gets caught," Miss Hoffman states without even glancing their direction. Dane catches the remark, while listening to Marty, remembering that she'd gotten in trouble for dating Ted.

"Dane, dude. Are you rebooting?" Steve laughs.

"He overthinks sometimes," Miss Hoffman adds, taking her glare away from Marty. It didn't seem to bother him.

Marty glances at Megana, "I'd like to talk to you next," his expression seems sincere.

Marty's eyebrow lowers, "I guess we're doing this in front of your friends then," he grins with the 'you asked for it' expression, "Alright then, I used to serve in the military. I won't say which. So I guess you could say its a bit of both evidence and instinct," he leans against the counter, takes off his blood smeared hat and stares at it for a long moment. He snaps back to reality, remembering why he's here, "Your dad, George. He served too, didn't he?" He watches Dane's face closely, arrogant grin on his face, "I can always spot another veteran. Who'd he serve for? I wanna know what Stein is hiding about your father."

Megana stares at Marty silently before speaking "what do you know of my father....the man whose family your stealing buisness from...." as she glares at him awaiting his answer from an arrogant bastard as she tries to figure out what hes thinking...

OOC: I suppose this is when Brad wanders in, hands still bloody from working on Teddy.

IC:
Brad trudges in emotionally worn by seeing how badly Teddy had been hurt. Looking over at Marty, Brad says, "Teddy is stable for the moment. He's being moved to the clinic where Doc Lewis and my parents will work on repairing the damage."

Dane glances at Steve. "Yeah, I do that," he admits flatly, then turns back to Marty. .oO Rebooting. If only it were that simple. Oo.

Dane considers for a moment before carefully forming a response. "I've suspected he probably served somewhere, but he never talks about it. You could ask him, and then we'd both know." A slight grin almost creeps onto his face before he remembers who he's talking to and how volatile the situation is. "What does Lord Stein have to do with it? Where are you seeing a connection between Stein and my dad?"

Megana silently stares, then asks, "What do you know of my father? You know, the man whose family your stealing business from."

"No, I was asking Dane about HIS father," Marty says frustrated, "I wanted to talk to you about if your mom and grandmother would be interested in a business idea that would benefit us both." He holds up his finger, "I'll get to that in a moment."

Brad, whose arms, face and shirt are heavily smudged with blood, trudges in. He looks emotionally worn after closely seeing how badly Teddy had been hurt. He addresses Marty, "Teddy is stable for the moment. He's being moved to the clinic where Doc Lewis and my parents will work on repairing the damage." Maya hesitantly snaps a photo of Brad.

"Did they say how long before I can see him?" Marty feels pulled in five directions.

Dane answers Steve, "Yeah, I do that," he admits flatly, then turns back to Marty. oO(Rebooting. If only it were that simple)Oo Dane considers for a moment before carefully forming a response.

"Because Stein seems to know all the secrets. If you ever see the man drunk, he talks a lot about secrets of Fort Hammer and other places. Some nonsense about religious stuff too," he shrugs, "Well, I thought I'd ask."

Frank walks in. He looks from person to person, while wearing a concerned expression.

Marty turns to Megana, "Last but not least. I want to offer your mother and grandmother free use of my trailers to haul horses to Smith Falls if they would agree to give me twenty five percent of the profits from using those transports. I wanted to run it by you first because I know you're all angry at me for my business practices. Teddy likes you guys and asked me to do this. He's a smart kid and his idea actually makes sense. It would help us both. Would you pass this onto them?"

Steve tosses his empty drink into the trash, "Ooo! those are good. Might try and get another one."

"I want one," Emily comments.

"No..." he replies

Marshal walks into the library. He looks at everyone with a very sorry expression. He spots Emily, "YOU! We have to go back home! Where's Liz?"

"I dunno. Don't care and I don't wanna leave." Emily tries hugging Steve, who just casually pushes her away... again.

"Yea, well neither do I but unless you want to get shipped somewhere else, then I'd say... Let's goooo!" He tries ushering her out. She tries to stick his tongue out at her, but he just angrily grabs her, pulls her outside and lets the door slam behind them.

"Finally!" Steve exclaims.

Sam can't hold his laugh, "Robbing the cradle, eh?"

"Say that again and I'll kick you in the balls."

OOC: All present:

Maya (sitting at a study table)
Megana (leaning on Sam)
Sam (beside the front counter)

"Did they say how long before I can see him?" Marty feels pulled in five directions.

"They'll probably be working on him for a couple hours at least, there's a lot of damage to fix. And then he'll likely be sedated for several more hours. No point hovering around the clinic for now."

Brad wanders over to the counter and rummages around for a beer or something similar. He needs something harder than juice or soda right now. When he finds one, he'll hold it up and ask, "Anybody know how much these run?" If anyone answers, he'll put the payment down where he took the beer from and goes to sit at a table with a sigh, exhausted mentally if not physically.

Dane looks at Marty, uncertain where to go next. He doesn’t trust him, not after what he tried to do to Meg. He glances toward Brad, relieved that Teddy is at least stable. Just because Teddy was a jerk to him doesn’t mean Dane wants anything to happen to him. “If it’s just rumor from a drunk, then it’s probably just noise,” he says, thinking out loud. “But if he talks about ‘secrets’ when his guard is down, then that’s still data and...” He trails off, realizing he’s getting too technical, then finishes more plainly. “I mean... it could matter, but we don’t know enough.”
