"Terribly sorry to hear about your sister." Jonesy says with all sincerity. "My sister's well enough, I suppose. She joined the church as an acolyte when she was 16. We haven't spoken much since then. I try to kid myself that she's just too busy to make the effort, but in all honesty we've just grown apart." He shrugs in dismissal. "I think she's some sort of priest or something by now."

The two continue walking along through the night. A guard patrol looks down a side street at them as they pass by.

{OOC: If I'm not mistaken, Belle never put her mask back on after talking with Dan. Is that correct?}

ic: Without saying anything, Belle thinks about her time in the priesthood. Just how much corruption there is in the cathedral. Turning slightly towards him, "Sorry, I was just thinking about something."

It is not super late and there are just walking. As such, it is unlikely the guard will be concerned with her. The blond haired Apok will look in the direction that the guard is looking (if I am understanding, he is not looking towards her.)

Without saying anything, Belle thinks about her time in the priesthood. Just how much corruption there is in the cathedral. Turning slightly towards him, "Sorry, I was just thinking about something."

"Wanna share?" He asks curiously.

The guards glance their direction as they pass by at the other end of the block, but after a cursory look they continue on their way.

ic: Shaking her head ever so slightly, Belle responds, "No, not really. A bit too personal at the moment."

"It comes and it goes. Some years are worse than others." the man responds. "With the Chisel Town garrison between here and Hammer Town, they generally don't bother this area too much. A few scouting patrols and an occasional probing force, mostly. Newhome was a more recently settled area. Father Malaki took great pains to ensure we made it difficult for any patrols to find us there. They obviously know the town is there now. I don't know if it was the fire at the chapel that gave us away or if raiders started the fire and they already knew about us.

"You can hide but eventually they will find you," Belle responds. Trying to take the sting out, "I wish it was not the case but it is. Don't worry though, I screwed up my previous life just as badly."

The Apok thinks for just a moment, "Before this fire, was there any changes such as a new priest? It is sad but I have personal knowledge that the Unholy has managed to corrupt elements of the church."

Shaking her head, Belle states "I know that this is not pleasant conversation."

"You can hide but eventually they will find you," Belle responds. Trying to take the sting out, "I wish it was not the case but it is. Don't worry though, I screwed up my previous life just as badly."

Jonesy looks at her curiously but says nothing to pry any more into her personal thoughts. "You're right. Life is hard here, but at least it's still life. The church does what it can, but that never seems to be enough."

The Apok thinks for just a moment, "Before this fire, was there any changes such as a new priest? It is sad but I have personal knowledge that the Unholy has managed to corrupt elements of the church."

Shaking her head, Belle states "I know that this is not pleasant conversation."

He thinks in silence for a few moments before responding. "Nothing out of the ordinary, anyway. I mean there are always comings and goings at the church. Priests, acolytes and servants come and go, but no one new in three or four months. It's not as if the town were a secret from the rest of the church, so anybody could have betrayed the towns location, I suppose.

"Before you ask, Father Malaki is one of the good guys. A bit eccentric and single minded, but he truly believes in the good he is trying to do and he surrounds himself with others that think the same. I heard that the only person that he didn't personally request be assigned to his church was Brother Tobius. I think the High Priests put the Brother there to keep an eye on Father Malaki. His history...that is, Father Malaki's history, is...ummm...a little blemished when it comes to following orders." Jonesy finishes with a 'what can you do' shrug. "Or so go the rumors."

One of those kind of rare smiles, "I wonder. I wonder how Father Malaki and I would get along? He seems like a very interesting sort. Might need to go and see him."

"Who am I to judge if he is good from evil especially without meeting him," Belle continues, shurgging. "Evil got its hooks deep into me and I was its pawn for many years. Of course, I see shadows everywhere even where there are none"

"Just curious, what about Brother Tobius," Belle asks. "How long has he been there?"

"I think he's been there since the town was settled years ago...or at least as long as Father Malaki." Jonesy replies.

It won't be much longer and the two will be back at the bar where they started. There are a few more people on the street now, their heads down, trying not to be noticed as they return to their homes.

The people around will notice that Belle stands with her head held high. She does not cow down and skittle around in fear. Her eyes scan for danger but don't judge those around her. Still, she is done with fear.

"It looks like we are almost back at the tavern," the blond haired Apok states.
