"Ill go first," Megana sighs, getting mentally prepared. She walks up to the starting line.
The announcer gets her name and blasts into the microphone, "Up next, we have Megana Damodred! Let's hear some noise! Rumor has it that she's Fort Hammer's star horse racing champion!" as the crowd and the line roar with excitement.
The buzzer sounds and Megana takes off, like Midnight would. She easily leaps through the quintuple step, rather enjoying the soft of the cushioned pads beneath her feet. She reaches 'Rolling Thunder', tightly gripping the log as it begins to roll down. She almost makes it look as easy as Teddy did, yet, almost slips climbing up to the rope swing. She grips the rope swing, guaging the needed momentum to reach the opposite platform. She jumps and swings out, but her foot misses the opposite platform, causing her to swing back. She hangs on, knowing that if she can't get the rope to either platform, then she won't make it. She swings back and forth, but eventually her hands and arms give out, being too tired to hang on. She drops to the safety mat, defeated by a simple swing.
"Oh no!" The announcer cries, "She was doing so well! Are you ready for your second try?"
Without waiting for Megana's answer, the workers march her back up to the starting platform. Megana realizes that she may be able to do this if she gets more of a running start on the rope. The buzzer sounds, but is quickly drowned out by the cheering crowd. She's so excited to get to her nemesis that she misses the third quintuple step and falls clumsily to the safety mat.
"No! I don't believe it!" The announcer shouts, "Meg, you have to come back and try again!"
As she walks away from the course, Sam is walking up the steps and gives Meg a thumbs up. The announcer, in his usual showman voice, introduces him, "Let's welcome Sam Kessler! An artist from Smith Falls!"
Sam looks determined, even if he looks incredibly frail. The buzzer sounds, he sprints forward amongst the cheers and shouts. He easily beats the quintuple step, maybe even making Teddy look obsolete. He reaches the rolling thunder, grips on and hugs the log. It begins rolling as he struggles to keep his grip. By the time it reaches the end, he's desparately hanging from it, but never touches the mat. He hoists himself to Meg's nemesis, the rope swing. He swings out and easily reaches the other side. He glances back at Meg and gives a wan smile and thumbs up. He then reaches Vi's nemesis, the warped wall. He studies it and then runs for it, dipping down through the ramp and then running up the wall and leaps. His right hand slips, but he manages to grab the ledge with his left and pulls himself up.
Sam takes a break, trying to catch his breath as he admires rotating balance log in front of him. He begins trying to quickly walk across. As soon as he takes a step, he realizes that it's easier if he just runs. In three strides, he makes it across.
He reaches the spider jump and climb. After a moment of deliberation, he drops down to the trampoline and then leaps up, managing to wedge himself between the plastic walls. His foot slips and he falls.
The workers rush him to the starting line as the announcer does his usual, "Oh! Foiled by the course's biggest nemesis, the spider climb!" He hypes the crowd up, "Come on folks! Let's give Sam some ENERGY!" The crowd sounds as loud as some of those old world sports shows. Sam prepares for attempt two.
The buzzer sounds. Sam makes it look much easier, passing the first three obstacles easily, reaching the warped wall, where he must have realized his mistake and manages to climb over and lopes across the rolling log. He reaches the spider jump and climb again. He jumps down, manages to brace himself between the two plastic walls, then slips and falls again!
"NO!" The announcer howls, "I'm so sorry, Sam! That one gets most of the people."
Sam walks back and joins Meg, sighing, "It's easy... then suddenly really hard! I kinda wanna try again!"
