"Sheriff Harper requests your assistance. Looks like the Line south of town is getting active. It's even visible in daylight," he pauses a moment before remembering to say, "Over."

"Roger that. Stay with me for a moment. Over," Vargas replies.

Nearly a minute passes when the radio sparks back to life, "This is Lt. Mikado. We'll head there shortly. ETA approximately 20 minutes. Does this happen often? Over."

while waiting for them to get back to him, Reggie looks around the office to see if there's a walkie-talkie or something he can use to quickly pass any info on to his dad. If not he'll just have to run over and inform him after the radio conversation is done.

"ETA 20 minutes, roger. The line is often visible at night but rarely in daylight. It also looks to be generating arcs of energy. Over." Reggie checks the time on his watch so he'll be able to give his dad the correct ETA once he actually talks to him.

While waiting for them to get back to him, Reggie looks around the office and finds his dad's rack of spare radios that are used in case of mass communications needs during a crisis.

"Copy that. I'd get a force near the closest nexus point and prepare to kill anything that comes through the tear. If you've never seen one, no worries, it'll make sense the moment it happens." Nexus? What's a nexus? "If it's big or fierce then find shelter. We're gearing up now. Out."

"Acknowledged, out." With that, Reggie grabs one of the spare radios and hurries back to his dad.

When he gets there, he'll check his watch again to calculate roughly how much longer before Lt Mikato is due to arrive. He'll info the sheriff of the ETA and hand over the radio so that Sheriff Harper can communicate with the flyboys.

Karen waits astride her motorcycle, stoic as ever, her expression unreadable. Al and Hank sit atop their horses, with Mr. Masters mounted on his own horse, proudly showing off his newest toy, a single‑shot derringer he swears has never missed.

Hank gives the group a nod. “Alright, gather up. We’re heading southwest to the lines. Might just be the season, but they’ve been throwing off more energy discharges than usual. Keep your eyes open, and be damn sure of your target before you fire.” Everyone nods, and he leads them out.

Karen’s new motorcycle hums quietly, barely louder than the horses’ clopping. Reggie rides Apple again, the horse perking up at the expectation of his favorite treat... apples.

“They’re called ley lines where I’m from,” Karen says as she finally pulls on her helmet over her black‑and‑white armor.

“And where’s that, exactly, miss?” Al asks.

“East,” she replies flatly.

“Well gosh, thanks for clearing that up,” he laughs. Karen isn’t much for conversation. She dodges most questions thrown her way, but she’s steady in a fight and never hesitates to help someone who needs it.

OOC: Current Party — Hank, Al, Reggie, Karen, and Eric Masters

Reggie eventually leads them to the spot where he met Reck. Vultures still circle to the south, and the lines are even more active now, arcing tendrils of energy that carve into the sandy ground.

“I’m guessing this is it, Reg,” the sheriff says, almost as if he's asking, staring at the glowing lines in disbelief. “I haven’t seen them this active in… well, almost twelve years...” A distant look settles over his face, as if he’s remembering something he’d rather not.

"Actually, I think the arcing is even more than when I left, Da-, er, Sheriff." Reggie is trying to be 'professional' while on the clock, so to speak.

He makes sure he can easily draw his Pulse Rifle and Particle Beam if need be. Likely he'll be using the laser rifle first if this get bad. The P-beam hits harder, but his Wilk's has more than half again the range.

Idly thinking of something that was said back in town, Reggie asks, "Miss Karen? You said these are called 'ley lines' back east. What does 'ley' mean?"

"I don't know," she says, unshouldering her incredibly bulky laser rifle, "We've just always called them ley lines. What do you guys call them?"

"Just... the line..." Hank replies.

"Glowy places," Al adds, testing the weight of his Wilk's 320 laser pistol.

Karen is already taking aim, using her sights to scan the length of the line. She has her finger hovering the safety as she says, "Picking someone about a mile down... walking this way."

Reggie draws his pulse rifle and copies her, looking through the scope while keeping his finger away from the trigger.

"Could be another refugee from Drive City?" he asks as he tries to locate the person through the scope.

He finally zeroes in on a young blonde girl, wearing tattered clothes and sun burnt, stumbling along the line as though looking for something.

Reggie observes her for a moment then looks over to his dad. "Want me to ride over and check her out?" (OOC: Reggie is oblivious to the phrasing he used :P ) Reggie figures the rest of the party is likely a better shot than him (due to being older/more practiced) and have better odds of providing effective cover fire if it's needed.

Plus if she is another refugee, he might be less scary than they others.
