Megana observes the tensions escalate, ready for any excitement.
Frank observes Marty with a look of shock and amusement before saying in French, "Hey old man, what else can you do that you're not telling people?" After pondering whether or not Teddy can speak French if Marty can, he continues. "You see if you were a bit smarter you wouldn't have told me that you understood me over a comment so mild." Smiling with way more confidence than he should have; as Marty stops smiling at something outside, "Now I know you know what I'm saying. It might've been more beneficial to play that card at a later date." Switching back to English, "I suppose now you'll have to check my expression from now on to see if I'm just messing with you, or if I'm just saying it because I know you're listening. Sounds like it'll be fun to me but extra stress on you old man."
Marty doesn't even look back, "If you say so, expert." He raises his voice, "Sheriff, are there any age limits for the festivities tomorrow?"
"Nope," the sheriff replies.
Dane doesn't understand the words, but the tone doesn't sound good. He tries to be small and invisible and hopes it just blows over. oO(Can't we just enjoy a peaceful lunch?)Oo.
"Alright then," Marty replies, enjoying the warm sunshine, "Frank, if you and your friends are so smart, then enter the holdem tournament tomorrow." He takes a deep breath of the summer air, "This should be interesting," as he shuts the door behind him.
Johnny perks, "They'll let us in?"
"It costs 10 credits per entry." The sheriff pipes up, "Winner takes sixty percent of the pot. Second place takes ten percent. Third place gets only five percent. The rest goes to the school and church. It's for a good cause." He spins his chair to face the teens, "Heck Frank, I'll cover you and four of your friends, if you want. But, I get half of your winnings should any of you place in the top three." He nods, "Do we have a deal?"
Dane and Frank are both smart enough to know a good deal that benefits all, unless the sheriff doesn't win. Unless he wants to see the teens be humbled in not just a game of cards, but a game of reading tells, personalities and the strategy around the game itself. Miss Hoffman, still holding Dane's hand, slightly laughs as she comments, "Dane, you should enter. You love games."
Johnny grabs what's left of his fries and heads for the door, "Be back in a bit, guys. I'm gonna see if my dad has the credits!" He pauses near the door, glancing back at Frank. "Who's all in?"
OOC: Gambling is an amazing skill, but can be attempted, using IQ or MA (whichever is higher) as a base if the actual skill is unavailable. Interrogation is another great skill, to tell if someone is lying, nervous, excited, etc... Gambling allows the player to fake tells or disguise real ones, which can foil successful interrogation checks.
