"Did I know what? I'm lost here. I need to help Teddy! He's in trouble!" Vi replies as the sheriff and Deputy Stryker haul her into the Justice center.
The color drains from Dane’s face as his eyes widen at the mindless anger being aimed at him. Ignoring the outburst, he drops to a knee in front of Meg Hoffman, an earlier conversation flashing through his mind—Teddy’s dad calling her a d-bee. “Meg,” he says softly, trying to catch her eyes, “We need to get out of here. We’re not safe. Come on, let’s get to the library.” He reaches for her hands and tries to help her stand so he can guide her away from the crowd. He looks briefly towards Vi wishing he could do something for her. Vi disappears beyond the front doors of the Justice Center, George glances back at his son with an, 'I'm so sorry," expression on his face.
Upon entering the Justice Center, the courtroom is straight ahead. The sheriff's office is to the left and the jail and holding cells are to the right. They escort her left and place her in a waiting room, handcuffing her to a dirty, stained with who knows what, steel handrail. The old man, Dusty Sky, sits across from her, also handcuffed to his own handrail. The sheriff and deputy Stryker leave the room and point to a camera in the corner of the ceiling, "We can see you. So don't try anything," the sheriff announces as they leave.
Dusty remains quiet as shouting can be heard from the main foyer, "She's a d-bee! The town charter says that we neutralize or expel them all! I committed no crime!"
"YOU," George can be heard, "Just crippled, if you didn't kill, a school kid who was defending his friend! He didn't know that she is a d-bee... that is... if she even is one! A KID! Swenson's right! You ARE a monster!"
"I saw her with my own eyes... using... POWERS!" Bart screams.
"Oh yeah?" The sheriff remains calm, "Describe these powers to me."
"Well, her hair started floating... and she had lightning around her and burned the other kid."
"You mean the one you had held down and had beaten half to death?" Dane's father scoffs. Bart doesn't answer.
"Bart, I'm going to be putting you in a holding cell to think about your life choices. You are under arrest and being detained for the attempted murder and assault and battery of, Theodore Swenson, a minor. Anything you do or say will be used against you in a court of your peers. Do you have anything more you'd like to say?" The sheriff calmly recites his version of the man's rights. There is no answer. "Very good. Get in there!" Followed by the sound of a heavy metal door being slammed shut. "And you say anything more, then I'll also charge you for knocking over that kid from Smith Falls."
"You're arresting the wrong people!" Bart's muffled shout can barely be heard as the two lawmen are back in the foyer.
"Heard from Tokahashi or Suarez on the body yet?" Stryker asks.
"No, but they should be back any..." their voices drown out as they walk somewhere more quiet.
Dusty lets out a slight chuckle and smiles as he asks, "Well kid, what are you in for?" Vi notices that his hands and sleeves up to his elbows are covered in dried blood. He's the same creepy man that she and Marshal saw staring at her near the obstacle course. He looks to be fiddling with a wooden carving that looks oddly like her... in painted-on red and blue boxing gloves with her same purple hair and eyes.

Vi glares at Dusty, "Who the f*#k are you and why do you have blood on your hands all the way up to your elbows?"
Dusty smirks, "Didn't your parents teach you manners?" He shifts from his left to right butt cheek, trying to get comfortable.
Vi scoffs, "Yeah, but you're a creepy old man stranger who's been stalking me. And now you have a doll that looks like me?" Her glare hardens, yet he doesn't seem the least bit phased or intimidated. He almost seems amused. So Vi continues with, "I just want to leave and have no idea why I'm in here."
Dusty lets out a single laugh, like he'd heard an unexpected joke, "It sounds like you're being accused of being a d-bee, a dimensional being, which is bad in this town." He looks down at his blood crusted hands, holding the wooden boxing figurine, "Sometimes I can predict the future, so... I made it for you." He tosses the doll neatly over as it lands, in standing position, on Vi's bench, right next to her. The arms and legs look like they move and the head swivels. "As for me, Violet, I killed a man who was trying to kill me. Claims I killed his mother." He sighs, much like an old man does as he looks at the holding room door, as though expecting someone.
Vi hears the front door to the Justice Center open. Footsteps approach as the door opens, revealing Lord Stein, whose concerned stare bounces from Dusty to Vi and then back to Dusty again. "Are you two getting acquainted?" he jokes. As Vi attempts to answer, Lord Stein coughs loudly enough to drown her out.
He moves to the bench against the wall adjacent to both Vi and Dusty and sits. His ridiculous crown still on, but Vi's gotten used to it. The man loves his costumes. He leans towards Vi, "I'm going to make sure that Teddy gets the best medical care. He's going to live." He then leans to Dusty, "I think our arrangement has been fulfilled, that should be the last of them and you and your kin can finally live in peace. So, I've decided to bestow you with some of my wealth to find a new, safer place to live."
"What about finding Drake?" Dusty asks.
"Rumors are abound that he was last seen in Ishpeming, which is quite a journey from here. You're still looking for your son?" Stein asks.
"I may head that way. For now, I need to get someone to safety and make sure that no one follows." Dusty stares at the floor, not looking up.
"Then it's settled. You and I are good? You have no reason to kill me now. I did nothing back then, but now I have given you a new life, but you refused to live in town." He thinks for a moment, "But then again, you were drawing the vengeance seekers astray. Away from the last of the people you love." Stein leans back over to Vi, "Violet, the people are going to hang you or burn you. Even I can't stop them. You're going with him," pointing his thumb towards Dusty, "He'll get you to safety. Do you understand?"
She tries to answer again, yet is interrupted with, "Bill, you always knew her abilities would start manifesting around this time. What gear did you get us?"
"What abilit..." Vi tries to join the conversation, yet...
"While Swenson was distracted with his boy on the brink of death, I took the liberty of moving his prized APC behind the jail for you both to leave in. There's a weeks worth of food and water. There's some extra clothes and an emergency travel kit. There's also a UI Card in the toolbox with some credits to last about a year, unless you decide to waste it on weapons and armor. Also there's a gift in the center console for you and I'm having the Trent family drop her stuff off in the back so that they can bid her farewell," he turns to Vi and hands her his Bible, "I had Felix make a bag of your favorite Bottoms Up cheeseburgers to take with and this is for you and I hope you remember all of my sermons. Godspeed, my child."
Vi tries to speak again, but the three of them can hear the front doors of the Justice Center swing open again, "Where is she?" and "We wanna see her now!" she hears the familiar voice of her mother and father.
"Mom! Dad!" Vi shouts. "Get me out of here!"
"Ethan... Esther, what are you doing?" Sheriff Ericson can be heard pushing them back outside, "Behind the jail, not in front, you numbskulls!"
"She's our daughter..." sounds of the sheriff angrily pushing the door shut as Vi hears Esther's muffled bellows, "Okay! okay!"
Vi's anxiety begins to increase as Dusty leans towards her, "I'm sorry kid. I really very sorry... But your world is about to flip upside down and turn inside out. The good thing is that I'm here to guide you through this shit storm and teach you how to really fight." He pumps his fist as pride radiates from his eyes with a boyish, slightly menacing grin.

Vi tries assessing the situation, "What's going on here? Why do I have to leave? Am I going to be able to get back here?"
Lord Stein sighs, "Maybe, but not soon. They're going to execute you, Violet. So God has spoken to me and I knew at that moment that you'd need to be saved." As usual, he brings his religion into it. Vi's read parts of the Bible, yet, reading has never been her thing. Much of what Stein preaches is an odd interpretation of the Book. He has a tendency of including himself as part of the story, like he's some sort of prophet. Lord Stein continues, "If you're lucky, then they'll give you a trial, but many are terrified of anyone who can use non-human abilities and overreact. Or, at the very least, treat you with great discrimination."
"Eh, what Billy is trying to say is that we have to go and I'm your best chance at surviving out there," Dusty adds.
Vi feels her anxiety levels spiking again. She glances at the doll that he tossed to her, "You never answered. Who are you?"
"Lord Stein and I have been friends since childhood. We had a bit of a falling out years ago and I did some bad things. Went through some rough times and then came here, where I started a new life and helped protect the town from outside threats." Dusty genuinely smiles. Vi feels like she's seen that smile before. Somehow it feels welcoming and safe, "Bill and I both knew that someday you could possibly develop some... abilities... I guess you could say. We just weren't sure which ones." Lord Stein tries to talk, but Dusty flashes him an angry look, then softens as he peers at Vi, "I knew your parents, before they died. After they died, you were adopted by the Trent family. They couldn't have children. But Violet, your real mother and father were both... d-bees."
Lord Stein takes a moment, seeing if Dusty will allow him to speak, "We'd hoped that the abilities would skip a generation, but... You apparently have either some telekinetic or electrokinetic power from the rumors spread after your scuffle with Ted." Lord Stein stands up, "Teddy is going to get the best care and treatment available. You may not recognize him the next time you see him, though," his grim expression hints that Teddy's fate was her fault as he exits the holding room, the loud metallic clang blaring as he slams the door.
"Violet, your mother was almost as beautiful as you. We knew this day may come so he had Esther and Ethan enroll you in boxing when you were quite young. Coach Driver said you picked up on it so fast that he knew you'd be a champion. But... your not fighting for trophies anymore. You're fighting to stay alive."
He stands, producing a handcuff key from his pocket, "Are you ready to go? We don't have time for you to say goodbyes'"

"They were d-bees?" Her shock apparent.
"Yep!" Dusty unlocks the cuff from her wrist, letting it hang from the wall, "Don't let it change who you are," he makes sure that Vi's gaze meets his, "You're strong and fight for what's right! Now are you ready? We'll need to move fast."

Vi rubs her wrists, "Okay, let's go, I guess, but where we going?"
Dusty just smiles like a boy on Thanksgiving as the pair escape the jail.
