EOTC: The Living Nightmare
Re: EOTC: The Living Nightmare
Standing back out of reach, Shep stands at the ready for a few moments until he's satisfied that the creature isn't going to get back up. "Reggie, you may want to go out and be with your dad. We'll clean up in here." He says solemnly. "And Reggie, I'm really sorry about your mom. I wish there would have been another way."
Re: EOTC: The Living Nightmare
OOC: I caught up on some of the original posts. I'll start working some of Shep's backstory back in a little bit. I had forgotten about his PTSD. Does he recognize anything about what's going on from the failed trek outside the valley?
Re: EOTC: The Living Nightmare
OOC: Zombies? no. But the supernatural, yes. The main thing is watching a large number of townsfolk get massacred around him.

Reggie, looks down at his mother's corpse sadly, then wanders out the back door, planning to hug his dad.

He solemnly says, "And Reggie, I'm really sorry about your mom. I wish there would have been another way."
Reggie sadly peers at his mother's corpse, then wanders out the back door. His dad is outside, failing to keep his composure as he exhales between sobs. Jack gives Reg a sympathetic, yet respectful, nod, then steps back inside the house.
Hank reaches out, grabs Reggie by the shoulder and pulls him into a comforting embrace, "We're going to get through this, okay?" he grunts, stifling any sadness, "We're going to kill every last one of them." He pushes Reggie to arms length as his blue eyes pierce into Reggie's, "Go get Shep for me. It's important. He's our only chance at defeating all of these things without more people dying."
The information is confusing to Reggie. How could an elderly man, who could barely hold one of these things in place, be able to wipe out the now supposed dozens in Camp Wilson? Even Ret and Irina are probably stronger than him. Reggie realizes that his father is keeping secrets.

Re: EOTC: The Living Nightmare
Reggie hugs his dad tightly as they share their grief.
He's down for destroying all of these things and whatever created them, though he's confused about how Shep can help.
Nodding to his dad, he goes back inside. "Hey, Shep? Dad wants to talk to you," he says while gesturing to the back door.

"Sure thing." Shep responds to Reggie. He quickly directs the others to care the body out back, but be on the lookout for any more. Gently using a hand on Reggie's shoulder he directs him back towards the door to go find out what Hank wants.

Jack quickly creates a makeshift portable cot out of a blanket, the pitchfork and a household broom. He stays silent and blank faced and so does Mazur, who knows better than to complain at this moment.
Reggie follows Shep outside, where the sheriff's hundred yard stare focuses on the barn. As the two approach him, he snaps out of it, blinking some tears back. He finally stands up and asks Shep and Reggie to walk with him towards the barn. Once inside the dusty old storage barn, he closes the large sliding doors.
He paces back and forth, almost like a man on the verge of losing his mind. He finally stops pacing and then observes Shep for a moment, before speaking, "Shep, my father knew your grandfather when he was young. Your father and I also knew each other before he was... well, you were there." Shep remembers bits of the horrific death and carnage that night, "Before he passed, he passed on something that my father told me when I became a deputy here. It's protocol..."
He sits on an old wooden crate and observes the two, "I have a mission for you two. It will save the town." He stares at the dusty barn floor, "My dad, Reg's grandfather, and your dad, Shep, told me that there's a weapon that can easily defeat these things but it has to be you, Shep. Something about nuclear biometrics to be able to use it. Whatever that means."
The sheriff stands and casually strolls over to an old severely corroded lockbox. He shields Reggie and Shep from seeing the combination he puts in. Reggie's seen the box many times. He's tried to open it a few times but stopped when he was caught. One of the few times his father had ever raised a hand to him, ever. He pulls out a laminated, folded document, closes the box and locks it. He walks the document to Shep and Reggie. "That's a map to where it is. Take shovels, you'll need to dig it out. Would help if Ryan, Ret, Corvus, Kar and maybe even Hughe were with you guys, but we don't have time. Take Mazur and Jack and follow the map, dig it up and hopefully Shep... Shep, I hope you know what to do once you uncover it. He said that it's coded to you. I just know it's an ancient weapon."
He addresses Reggie, "You need to protect him. Okay? I have to stay and save who I can." Then back to Shep, "Can you do this? I'll explain the rest later." With everyone's hearing beginning to clear up, the ringing from the loud gunfire slowly fading away, they can hear distant pops of gunfire and screaming echoing from town.

Re: EOTC: The Living Nightmare
Shep gently unfolds the map, holding it so Reggie can study it with him.
“I hate leaving the town with even fewer defenders than it already has,” he says, eyes scanning the markings. “But if this weapon can do what you say, maybe we can save a few more lives in the end.”
After a moment’s quiet analysis, he looks Hank squarely in the eye.
“You’re going to need every advantage you’ve got to hold this place, but we’ll need something better than sticks and farm tools if we run into more of those things. That pitchfork did its job, but I’d feel a hell of a lot better with something that keeps a little more distance between us and them.”
He folds the map again, tucks it into his jacket, and waits for any hint from Hank that more arms might be available. His posture says the rest — he’s already committed.

Shep gently unfolds the map, holding it so Reggie can study it with him. The map leads to Lake Crenshaw. Upon reaching the town, there is a district of abandoned businesses and warehouses. X marks the spot in what looks like one of the abandoned buildings. A third map sketch shows the layout of the warehouse, which shows the basement, where X marks the spot in one of the storage rooms. The area is in a bad part of the city.
“I hate leaving the town with even fewer defenders than it already has,” he says, eyes scanning the markings. “But if this weapon can do what you say, maybe we can save a few more lives in the end.”
"Shep, I was told that this weapon was specifically made for you." Hank replies.

Hope fills Sheriff Harper's eyes as he brandishes a rather heavy looking automatic pistol. "Take this," he hands Reggie the gun, "Only use it if you have no choice. Bullets for that thing are impossible to find."
Reggie has held this hand cannon before but never gotten to shoot it. It's heavier than most guns. It's well taken care of and across the side is inscribed, "Desert Eagle .50 Patent Pending 2066."
