"Everybody! Get back away from the water!" Shep shouts out. He heads for his wagon full of cooking supplies as he calls out "Hey Sheriff! I think you might want to see this!" He shouts; a strong presence of anxiety is evident in his voice. Arriving at his wagon he grabs the largest knife he can find, knowing that the regular steal of his cooking utensil may not be enough against these creatures. If everybody heeds his advice and stays away from the water, they should be fine.

Most everyone leaps away from the water. The water continues to team with these fish as they begin making short work of Ret's fishing pole. The sheriff inquires loudly from the brush, "What is it, guys?"

"Oh, just thought you might want to help catch dinner here!" Shep yells back. "Unless you'd rather they caught us instead! Hey, did you request the monster piranhas be planted in our river or is this just a bonus for our fishing pleasure!?" His tone of voice drips with sarcasm and exasperation that the sheriff didn't come running the first time. He should know that Shep wouldn't have bothered him if it wasn't important.

The sheriff quickly bolts around a small grove of bushes as several of the fish jump out of the water, snapping at Ret and Corvus. They quickly back up as the fish almost bank themselves and then flop back into the water. He makes it to the bank as the fish nearly leap out and snap into his face. Al, the sheriff's friend, quickly grabs sheriff Harper by the collar and pulling him back. The sheriff's face seems pale. He looks back at Al and mutters, "It's starting again..."

"Hey, nice of you to join us." Shep smiles sarcastically. "Whoops, watch yourself there, I think that one smelled those shiny boots of yours and plans to taste them for dessert after dining on the rest of you." Shep brandishes his impromptu weapon and wishes he had something with a little more range than a butchers knife.
His forced smile and witty attitude immediately drop as he overhears {OOC: assuming he overhears} the sheriffs mumbled comment. "Oh no it's not." He states in a low, flat voice. His eyes taking on a distant look as the involuntary visions of his past threaten before his eyes clear and Shep looks more focused than they has in years. Shep looks at Al and the Sheriff in turn. "This won't happen again. You hear me? It won't." Gone, for now, is the friendly old man...replaced by a man with a hard soul that has seen death...too much death.

"Everyone get away from the water! Head back to town!" The sheriff says as he pulls his pistol and begins aiming. "Shep, make sure you account for everyone!" He glances over at Jack and Reggie, "You two, I need you two to get my horse, pitch fork from the barn and the rifles! NOW!"
Al also brandishes his pistol and in one swift move he fires. The sound is deafening as the head of one of the fish explodes into a red mist as it jumps out of the water. Then the sheriff fires and misses.
Irina and Beth immediately run into the brush; Beth screaming and crying the whole way.

"You heard him. Back to town, the rest of you. Meet at the library. Hank," Shep calls over to the Sherrif "You want me to send back some help?" After getting the Sheriff's response, he heads out, ushering the kids ahead of him at a rapid pace. He looks to overtake or intercept the girls before they take it into their heads to just hide in the bushes.

Sheriff Harper nods, "Yes, but warn everyone to stay AWAY from the river!" Another set of shots is heard as Shep heads out, ushering the kids ahead of him at a rapid pace. He looks to overtake or intercept the girls before they take it into their heads to just hide in the bushes.
Irina and Beth are far ahead of Shep, Jack and the others, screaming the whole way back to town. This is enough for the townsfolk to be waiting in a line once the group makes it to the border of town. All curiously looking towards Shep for what calamity may have occurred. The mayor steps forward ahead of everyone, "What's going on, Shep?" Shep can't help but feel like the mayor has those accusatory eyes on him.

"First, I had nothing to do with this...at least I don't think so..." Shep trails off as if he is distracted by other possibilities that pop into his head. "Anyway, that's not important," he finally continues "What is is that there are man eating fish coming out of the river that tried attacking us. Sheriff Harper and a friend of his are fighting them off as best they can, but they could use some help. Everyone needs to stay away from the river. A few people with guns need to head over to the fishing hole and give the Sheriff a hand, though."

Simon Brewster, Jack's father, steps forward and nods to Shep, "I'll go," he says plainly. Always the quiet type, he seems to have a grim look of determination. No one else seems to step forward.
The mayor pipes up, "What kind of fish? How big?" It looks as though the mayor is deep in thought. "I say we all grab some spears and pitch forks! We can have a feast tonight!" Some of the people begin cheering as they rush off to get their makeshift weapons. Shep can't help but get a deep, overwhelming feeling that this is a bad idea.
