--Background--
From a young age, Dane showed signs of exceptional intelligence—solving puzzles meant for adults, mastering complex systems, and even writing rudimentary code before most kids could read fluently. But brilliance came at a cost.

At age 12, during a youth science initiative sponsored by the Smith Falls computer science scholarship, he was selected for a high-level computer science integration with cybernetics workshop. The program was intense, and the environment was sterile and isolating. Long hours in labs, exposure to harsh lighting, and a lack of physical activity began to take a toll. He developed a mild but persistent skin condition from chemical exposure—nothing dangerous, but enough to leave his complexion uneven and his features slightly drawn.

Later, during a field test of a prototype sensor rig, he'd helped install, a minor equipment malfunction caused a flash burn across his cheek and jawline. Though the injury healed, it left faint scarring that he never bothered to conceal. To him, it was a badge of learning — a reminder that even mistakes can lead to progress.

Combined with his tendency to avoid social situations and his preference for quiet observation over conversation, he never cultivated the kind of presence that turns heads. His appearance is clean and functional, but not polished—more focused on utility than aesthetics.

--Appearance and Demeanor--
Dane has a slim, almost delicate build—more suited to quick thinking and agility than physical confrontation. His posture is upright but relaxed, suggesting someone who’s observant and quietly confident rather than hardened by experience.

His steel gray eyes are striking—cool, intense, and unusually focused for someone his age. They hint at a mind that’s always analyzing, always calculating. He’s clearly gifted, possibly the kind of student who breezes through complex systems and algorithms while others are still figuring out the basics.

His dark brown hair is cropped close, neat and practical, with a subtle widow’s peak that adds a mature edge to his youthful face. It’s a style that suggests discipline—perhaps from a structured upbringing or early training program.

Despite an average physique, he moves with purpose and precision. He’s not athletic, but he’s not clumsy either — just someone who’s more comfortable behind a screen than on a battlefield.

Due to a strangely uneven complexion and faint burn scarring across his cheek and jawline, he’s not especially charismatic or socially dominant, but he’s not awkward either. He’s the quiet type — someone who earns respect through competence rather than charm.

Since the Summer Festival, Dane and Miss Hoffman's relationship has flowered into a steady romance. Often times, trying to sneak episodes of "Eagle Rock Spuds" or watching movies in Smith Falls, Meg tries to avoid seeing Kendal's acting, after seeing what she's really like. Dane has honed his technical skills to a level that he's in high demand by the locals, especially the sheriff's department of Fort Hammer and police force of Smith Falls. As he and his peers grow into adulthood, he's finding that his deep rooted interests are becoming a profession.

Lord Stein is the ruler and religious leader of Fort Hammer. Upon arriving in town, he'd won an election over the former mayor and town butcher, Andrew Lee, who's also the brother to the mayor of Smith Falls. Stein's first few years as mayor had gone amazingly, sparking a term of relative peace, progress and spiritual awakening. A few years ago, he did away with the town council and had declared himself the ruler and Lord of Fort Hammer. His only opposition was Carla Swenson, Ted's mother, who mysteriously disappeared while her husband, Marty, became wealthy off of his transport business.

Many of the townsfolk respect and adore Lord Stein while others either despise or fear him.

The town suppliers of all things alcohol. Felix is Fort Hammer's master brewer and supplier. His wife, Angela, is the owner of Bottoms Up. The origin of the name of the saloon is lost to history other than word of mouth. Rumor has it that the Bottoms Up was once a brothel, but later converted into a saloon with several rooms for rent, if needed. Passed down from her father, Angela became the sole proprietor when her father tragically passed away during a freak lightning storm. Not long after, she met Felix, who was, by then, the most talented brewer and supplier of some of the best wines, whiskeys, tap beers and liquors.

Together, the two had Francis, or Frank as most call him. Frank was named after Felix's great great grandfather, Francois. Francis sounds better than Francois. His love for his heritage and culture has been passed down to Frank, along with his love for brewing. Their heritage dates back to the golden era before the apocalypse.

Marty, as most know him by, was a newcomer, along with his wife, Carla, and their son Theodore "Teddy", to Fort Hammer about 13 years ago.

Since then, Carla disappeared under mysterious circumstances, after contracting cancer. He suspects Lord Stein has something to do with his wife's disappearance.

He amassed a fleet of vehicles ranging from small snowmobiles to large flatbed transport trucks for rent as private or commercial use to Smith Falls, where he runs a retrieval operation. His business empire has made him the second most wealthy individual in town, right behind Lord Stein. Marty's contributions to the town have gained him respect and notoriety. A select few see him as a capitalistic predator who's willing to run their livelihoods under to fill his own pockets.

His son, Teddy, has a reputation as somewhat of a bully and boxing protege. Marty has seen his share of hardship and some have speculated that he may be former military. His life before Fort Hammer remains a mystery. He's very protective of his son, to a fault. Most say that Ted may be his downfall.

If ever a doctor took his profession more seriously than Shane, most would beg to know. This man holds monthly first aid and paramedic training while working closely with DVM Wyatt Greenwood, the town veterinarian. Being the primary and only doctor in Fort Hammer, Shane keeps to himself and tries to keep his best friend's son, Brad, from the danger and horrors of life outside of town. Dr. Lewis, at times, has even forgiven outstanding debts in the name of health.

His wife, Ingrid, was one of Fort Hammer's town drunks, eventually left him for Greg Fowler, the town carpenter and another town drunk. Since his wife has gone sober, he's considered taking her back, but hasn't yet. He keeps a close eye on the glass shop in case of any mishaps. "Glass is dangerous, you know?" as he would always tell her.

Wyatt's son, Brad, has quite a talent as a medical helper. At times, even outpacing the doctor in recovery methods to the sick and injured. Shane is very proud of Brad and hopes that Brad replaces him as the town physician.

Brad's parents, Wyatt and Julie Greenwood, are described as good people. Wyatt runs Fort Hammer's veterinary services, keeping much busier than his business partner, Dr. Shane Lewis. Together, they've turned the town clinic, into something of a professional service that one would expect in the late 20th century. Wyatt allows Brad to help assist in minor medical procedures. He's noticed that Brad seems to have the techniques and concepts of basic first aid and treatment better than anyone he's ever met.

Wyatt's wife is a stay at home mom who does her best to involve herself in the community and keep close tabs on Brad. Most believe that something awful had happened to the couple to cause extreme paranoia about Brad's safety. On some days, she assists the two doctors if things are busy. She is a trained paramedic and vet technician.
