"Awesome this will go well with both thank you." Frank says before starting to pull one loaf bread into bite sized chunks in preparation to making them into garlic croutons. With the other loaf he cuts evenly. One piece for each person. That one he will still season but serve with the soup as garlic bread instead of croutons.

When everything is back to calm she still wants to forage around. "Still want to have a look around? " she asks Brad. She's hoping the answer is yes because she doesn't want to go alone.

Frank face palms at the sight of the trailer and sighs, "Can't believe no one thought to strap anything down. Hell even I didn't think to ask or double check." Looking at what got smashed he thinks for a minute what he could cook with what he has. "Looks like its going to be a hearty potato bacon soup for dinner tonight. Johnny you want to bring over the crushed bread as well i think I'm gonna turn that into some croutons to go with the soup or a future salad." He'll then pull out the Dutch oven, the iron skillet, his personalized knife and a cutting board to begin cooking. "If you can find the butter so that I can toast and make the croutons that'd be helpful thanks Johnny. Also Liz if you have some seasoning that might be good with either the croutons or the soup let me know what you have. I'm sure it'll be a nice addition to have flavored croutons than just regular ones." He adds with a chuckle before showing everyone the fruits of his training.

Before leaving to explore, Liz hands Frank some sage and a clove of garlic. "We'll see what's around here and of course stay in communication." Then she heads out with Brad.

"Also if you can find some wild potatoes or onions while you guys are foraging to replace what got damaged that would also be helpful too guys. Frank adds before Brad and Liz get too far away. "Also keep your radios on just in case you need help or we do." As he takes the garlic and sage, "Awesome this will go well with both. Thank you." he starts to pull one loaf bread into bite sized chunks in preparation to making them into garlic croutons. With the other loaf he cuts evenly. One piece for each person. That one he will still season but serve with the soup as garlic bread instead of croutons.

OOC: Liz and Brad will be in group Rifts - DMH - Rifle Ridge Journey - Foraging - Day 1

Johnny barely waits for Liz and Brad to disappear before slapping a full pound of bacon into Frank’s hands like he’s passing off contraband. Frank doesn’t hesitate; he’s already got the pan roaring, bacon sizzling, grease collecting like liquid gold. The moment it’s done, he pivots, dumps cooking oil into the oil pot, and Johnny’s right there feeding him sliced potatoes and squash like some kind of culinary conveyor belt.

Frank sets up the Dutch oven next, uncorks both bottles of milk, and pours them in with the solemnity of a priest blessing holy water. Basil, salt, pepper, his holy trinity, follow right after. Then he gets bold and splashes in onion juice and garlic, and suddenly the whole camp smells like a five‑star diner that fell into a campfire.

Johnny takes over stirring the chips, hyper‑focused, making sure none of them dare stick together. All the while, every few seconds, he dices potatoes like he’s trying to impress a cooking show judge who isn’t even here.

The bacon finishes, and Frank, because he cannot help himself, tosses a handful of croutons into the leftover grease. It’s an experiment. It’s a revelation. It’s a religious experience. When they taste the regular croutons afterward, both he and Johnny look offended. Sam tries one of the bacon croutons and actually smiles. A real one. Then he goes right back to folding aluminum into weird little art pieces for Frank, like some kind of culinary origami apprentice. Meanwhile, Frank and Johnny abandon the regular grease croutons for the bacon grease fried ones.

Meanwhile, Frank starts mashing brats and hotdogs together into a meat paste that absolutely should not work but somehow will. He calls it “meatballs.” Everyone else calls it “concerning.” Maya and Steve just stand there watching the trio whirl around each other like a well‑oiled kitchen machine. Eventually Steve mutters, “It’s kinda satisfying to watch. I’m actually getting hungry.”

Maya shoots him a look. “Didn’t you just inhale half a bag of chips?”

“That was just to tide me over,” he says, as if this explains anything.

“You eat too much. How do you not gain weight?” she pokes.

“I burn it off working and… playing.” He doesn’t elaborate. He just stares at the cooking chaos like it’s a nature documentary.

Johnny, still stirring, nods. “It is sort of relaxing.” Then, without looking up, he calls, “Hey Frank? Think sage would go well in the soup?” He gestures vaguely at the endless sagebrush surrounding them like nature’s spice rack.

Frank doesn’t answer yet as he’s too busy wrestling the meat paste into something vaguely spherical. But the question hangs in the air like the aroma of bacon‑fried croutons: warm, weird, and oddly comforting.

Brad is still up for foraging, though before heading out he'll grab his laser pistol and Vibroknife, just in case (the trailer situation reminding him to think ahead). The pair can begin to sweep the area looking for useful/edible plants, with Brad also keeping an eye out for small game that he can contribute to the cookfire (assuming he can hit it with his bow)

Well, part of the point of this trip is to learn more about the world and how to get by in it, and the first lesson has been 'pay attention when you're packing'. ;P

skills of possible use:
Wilderness Survival 45%
Holistic Medicine 50%
ID Plants and Fruit 35%
longbow (2d6 SDC, +1 Strike, Rate of Fire: 2, plenty of range for hunting purposes)

Meanwhile, Frank begins frying up the sausage/dog meatballs while appropriately adding light sprinklings of salt and a few herbs. By the time he's done, everyone present seems to eagerly wait for whatever he's about to make. The meatballs turn out great!

Off in the distance, Liz and Brad seem to be enjoying their time foraging. It looks like they found quite a bit of food.

Lysanthra feels like this haul has been a successful start to their trip. She has already accomplished this much and knows that there will be more adventures to come. "Do you want to head back now? I feel like this is a good start and I'm happy with it for now. " She asks Brad, glancing around once more. Liz is thinking this will be a good day and she's thankful for the people she is with right now.

"Yeah we might as well head back," Brad says with a nod, "Not like we'd be able to carry much more anyways," he adds with a grin. He does keeping looking around from time to time. The lack of wildlife seems very odd.

Upon heading back to the campsite, they notice everyone eagerly waiting for food as Sam, Johnny and Frank create what looks they went overboard on creating the most elaborate lunch over a campfire. Liz and Brad bring in quite the haul of collected herbs, fruits and veggies.

On a suspicion, Brad asks, "Anyone got a Geiger counter?"

Johnny stops working, lifting a concerned gaze to Brad, "Whyy?"

Lysanthra has a feeling she knows what Brad is getting at because she also found the lack of wildlife odd. Hopefully nothing is wrong but better to be safe. The food smells delicious and her stomach grumbles clearly complaining out loud. She begins putting away her goodies that were found and adds some potatoes and onions to the group's food supplies. Liz returns to the campfire admiring Frank's cooking.

Sam’s head snaps up as if yanked by an unseen force. His eyes lock on the two boulders leaning together, which was the spot where Brad and Liz had been foraging only moments ago. A ripple of unease crosses his face, sharp and immediate. He turns to Frank and Brad, voice low but urgent. “Guys… we need to go. Now. Something’s wrong. I don’t feel right about this place, and we shouldn’t touch the food. Any of it. Something’s… messing with it. I think...”

Confusion flickers across his features, growing into something close to fear. He keeps scanning around. First his gaze searches the camp, then the rolling prairie surrounding them, then the horizon, like he’s expecting someone to step out of thin air. His voice drops to a whisper, barely audible over the crackle of the fire, “Where is she?”

Johnny stops working, lifting a concerned gaze to Brad, "Why?"

"I didn't see any sort of wildlife over there, not even bugs. And with this much food growing, something should have been eating it."

At Sam's words, Brad gazes back at the boulders, as he sets his load onto the ground. Looking over to the others he says, "What do you think? and should I warn Larry and his guys?"

OOC: Brad has Lore:D-Bees, but I don't think that would be much help here.

Lysanthra was looking forward to the delicious meal but definitely starts to worry at Sam's sudden comments. She agrees that something isn't right. She begins more carefully scanning her surroundings too without walking around. She feels uneasy now. There seems to be a heaviness in the air that she couldn't sense before maybe because she wasn't really paying attention. Liz becomes very concerned and says "Something is definitely off here".

Frank looks over what was brought back before asking, "To clarify you're talking about the food they found not what we brought with us? I ask because people have been eating what I cooked. If you mean the stuff from the area, I'm fine with leaving it." He'll set aside what was scavenged. "And do i have time to clean up a little or is it we have to go now? It is easier to clean while everything is still hot." Frank will scan the area while he starts to pack up what's not in use while snacking on croutons.
