EOTC: The Living Nightmare - Shep
Re: EOTC: The Living Nightmare - Shep
Hoping the nurse doesn’t recognize his voice, Shep answers, “You’ll be safe here. I’m Lt. Colonel Daniels, and this is Lieutenant Nico. Prep for surgery while we finish clearing the building. The doctor will be bringing down a young girl with a fractured skull and broken ribs—she’s going to need immediate surgery if she’s going to make it.”
He pauses as he thinks for a moment. “You’ll want restraints… just in case she doesn’t survive the procedure and turns into… one of them.” They both nod and begin swiftly prepping the operating table.
Shep pulls the operating room door closed behind him and turns to continue the sweep. “Lieutenant—sit rep. Is this floor clear?”
"Yessir," Lt. Mikado answers. "Reinforcements are just about here." Nico walks his SAMAS to the main entrance and stares out of the window.
OOC: Basement entrance is actually outside, looks like the entrance to a root cellar and used mainly for storage.

Re: EOTC: The Living Nightmare - Shep
OOC: Unless he’s missing something, Shep believes the building is secure at this point.
Shep lifts his voice just enough for the doctor upstairs to hear. “Doc—clinic looks secure. Still move careful. We’ll handle the perimeter. Nurses are prepping the O.R.”
Once he’s confident his voice carried, he turns back to Nico. “You’re the one tied into your squad and their comms. How can our next actions best coordinate with them?”

Moments later, the doctor, Irina and Ret help the doctor carry Nova down the steps and into the operating room. Nova looks about the same; conscious, half-dead and miserable...

The sounds of power armor can be heard landing outside. A few sounds of scuffling briefly erupt outside. Nico nods and then squawks into his loudspeaker, "Well, sir. I have two RPA flyboys out there, awaiting orders and bashing anything that comes at them. Five tangos down in the past ten seconds. Would you like to work from the inside and move out, or vice versa? Or we could just sweep from one side to the other and hope none slip past us."

Re: EOTC: The Living Nightmare - Shep
Shep takes a moment, thinking through the layout of the surrounding buildings and how far he can realistically stretch a perimeter without losing control of it.
OOC: What buildings are in the immediate vicinity? Shep is looking for something defensible to expand the safe zone without overextending the perimeter.
“Sounds like your guys are off to a good start,” Shep says, voice steady. “First priority is locking down the immediate area around the clinic. This is our anchor point—medical, shelter, command. We start herding civilians here.” He pauses, then continues. “Once that’s solid, we expand to one nearby structure—something defensible—for anyone who’s uninjured but not able to fight. I don’t want people spread all over town.”
Another thought clicks into place. “When I left earlier, the sheriff and some others were holed up in a barn. If we can get to them, the sheriff can probably help organize an armed militia to help patrol the safe zone while we keep clearing.” Shep looks back to Nico. “Let’s clear the immediate vicinity first. After that, we move in pairs. I’ll take one unit to extract the sheriff. The other element keeps tightening the perimeter security and sweeping anything that wanders too close.”

Shep takes a moment, thinking through the layout of the surrounding buildings and how far he can realistically stretch a perimeter without losing control of it. With only four suits of armor, it'll be difficult, but not as difficult as trying to herd cats. They tend to chase anyone living.
OOC: What buildings are in the immediate vicinity? Shep is looking for something defensible to expand the safe zone without overextending the perimeter.
OOC 2: Sheriff's Office and jail on one side. Local Market store on the opposite side.

It looks as though Nico is relaying the information to his fellow pilots as he gives a nod of understanding.

"Yes Sir, where would you like us to start? With the hospital clear, we'll need someone to guard the entrance until we can get the locals to do it, otherwise, one might slip through. And those kids on the four wheeler, they could probably herd some towards us." Nico adds.

Re: EOTC: The Living Nightmare - Shep
A brief flicker of annoyance crosses Shep’s face inside the helmet. Nico’s missing the bigger picture, so Shep adjusts his tactic, forcing patience into his voice. “How about this,” he says evenly. “I take one of your flyboys and go see what we can do for the sheriff. You and your other pilot stay here and keep the clinic secure.” His tone lightens slightly. “On our way out, we’ll swing by the kids on the four-wheeler and have them try to herd some zombies your direction. Wouldn’t want you getting bored.”
He gestures back toward the building. “One of you stays tight on the entrance. The other stays close and handles anything that comes too near the perimeter. Nothing gets inside unless we say so.” He pauses, then adds, “I’ll be back as fast as I can—hopefully with reinforcements. And Lieutenant—trust your gut. But this building stays secure. Understood?”
Inside the helmet, doubt creeps in. Shep isn’t sure how much longer he can keep up the charade before Nico realizes he isn’t who he claims to be—but hopefully long enough to save the town. Then he’ll deal with the consequences of his lies.

"Sir, I'm not familiar with the area. Please bare with me. Your orders are understood. Sgt. Williams will accompany you. He's been informed that you're radio isn't functioning."

"Roger that, sir!" Nico replies enthusiastically.

Both of the SAMAS pilots fly in, skidding to a halt just a few yards away. Nico points to the one with "21" emblazoned across its shoulder, "This is Sgt Williams," and then gestures to the SAMAS with "42" on his shoulder, "And this is Sgt Major Vargas. Boys, Lt. Col. Daniels. He is point for this mission and you follow his instructions, no joking around. People are dying the longer we wait." They both reply by standing at attention. "Let's move out. You have your instructions."
Sgt Williams immediately moves over to Shep, announcing on his loudspeaker, "Sgt Pete Williams at your service, sir! Ready when you are!" Shep notices that the man has a severe lisp.

Re: EOTC: The Living Nightmare - Shep
“Welcome to the party, Sergeant.” Shep answers with a brisk nod of his helmeted head. “You’re on me. Keep your eyes peeled for anyone in immediate danger—we may have to break off for a quick rescue or two before we reach our objective.”
He engages the Silver Eagle’s thrusters and lifts off, angling toward the four-wheeler while keeping his sensors and attention sweeping the area below for any signs of living people in trouble.

The pair fly to the north side of town where Hughe and Ryan are still driving around leading zombies out of town. A pair of horses with mounted riders appear as small silhouettes on the north road. They're mostly likely Reggie, Mazur and Jack.
The four wheeler veers towards Shep and Sgt Williams. The zombie chasing them is much faster than the usual, almost keeping up with them. (ooc: Picture the speed of the WWZ zombies)
"Holy crap! That thing is fast!" The Sgt blares over his loudspeaker.

Re: EOTC: The Living Nightmare - Shep
“Let’s get that thing off their tail,” Shep broadcasts over the rush of air and the whine of the jets.
He quickly judges the distance and angles, where the kids and mounts are moving—making sure a missed shot won’t put anyone else at risk. As soon as the zombie enters a clean firing trajectory, he steadies the Silver Eagle and squeezes off a single rail gun shot, aiming for the creature’s head.
OOC: Assuming Shep has closed to effective range and no penalties apply and Sgt. Williams hasn't already engaged and eliminated the threat.
