EOTC: The Living Nightmare - Shep
Re: EOTC: The Living Nightmare - Shep
Shep doesn’t flinch at the moan; if anything, it sharpens his focus. More of them coming this way means fewer threatening the people still hiding elsewhere. He steps in and reaches for the side of the creature’s neck — forcing himself to mentally separate the dead friends he once knew from the things standing in front of him — trying to lock her movement down. His first attempt misses as she lunges and hopelessly slaps the back of Nico's SAMAS. He manages to grab her by the neck.
With the motion set, he drives a controlled armored punch toward her face, a fast, efficient strike meant to stop her before she can claw her way any closer. His first hit results in a cracking noise as her ear promptly hemorrhages a sickly dark red deluge. The second hit creates sharp wet smack. Ms. Fleming relaxes, going limp with her skull caved in and eye protruding from its orbital socket.
"I'm sorry Shep," Carl sympathises, as Shep realizes that he's uncontrollably shaking, but keeping his wits about him, "I detect that you're experiencing severely elevated stress levels. Is there anything I can do or say to keep your mind focused?"
"Good job, sir." Nico thumbs up as four more almost unrecognizable zombies pour around the corner towards Nico, "I've got these!" He shouts as he marches forward, grabbing the lead zombie and checks its face and reactions. Upon being satisfied that the already near faceless zombie is truly a zombie, he simply claps it's head between his hands, creating a sickly spray of skull and brain matter across the wall and ceiling. Of course, the rest seem unphased by the Nico's violent methods. He seems confident that the rest are not even remotely human; dispatching them with ease. Shep doesn't even have time to identify them through the gore and swift carnage.
Sounds of terrified people emanate from multiple rooms as Carl continues, "Shep? Tell me more about your father and grandfather. Do you have any children?"

“Not now, Carl. Not a good time.” Shep forces a slow breath, clamping down on the shake in his hands and pulling his focus back to the hallway. He moves after Nico, keeping his pace deliberate, and starts checking each closed door he passes—pausing long enough to listen, look, or scan before moving on.
“Lieutenant,” he says, attempting to keep his voice steady and authoritative, “Clear the open areas and secure the building. I’ll take the rooms one by one.”

"My apologies, Shep," he can sense that Carl is helping him with scanning and data assessment.
“Lieutenant,” he says, attempting to keep his voice steady and authoritative, “Clear the open areas and secure the building. I’ll take the rooms one by one.”
"Roger that, sir," Lt. Mikado answers as Shep finds the first door with visuals on warm bodies inside.
Inside sits, Irina, Corvus and Ret. Ret, Shep's best friend, besides a few bruises that Hughe gave him early today, looks fairly unscathed. Irina has a few scrapes and bruises. Corvus is in dire need of medical attention. His face looks as bruised as Jack's or Reggie's, but he seems to be drifting in and out of consciousness. Shep is sure that if he talks, then it will blow his cover. They'll recognise his voice.
Up the hallway, Nico takes down a young zombie; a young girl. Nico takes a moment to kneel down in respect for the girl. That's when loud thumping footsteps can be heard from up the hallway and around the corner, heading straight at Nico. "Uh sir?" He briefly glances at Shep while standing back up, "This one's different!" As a large fist launches out and slams the center of Nico's SAMAS, launching him out of view. The large frame of Alfred Kersch enters, filling up the entire hallway. Alfred was a survivor of the night that changed Shep forever.
Ret shouts out, "No! Shut the door! They'll kill us all!" as he runs for the door to shut it.

Re: EOTC: The Living Nightmare - Shep
Shep's head snaps toward the massive silhouette filling the hallway. The sight of Alfred hits like a gut punch, memories slamming into him hat he fights to suppress. .oO Sorry, my old friend. Oo. He forces the panic down, muscles tightening as he shifts his stance. This isn’t Alfred—not anymore. Not a man. Not someone he failed to save. Just a threat. Just another thing standing between the survivors and making it out of here alive.
Shep launches forward, driving the Silver Eagle into a rush meant to take the creature off its feet and buy Nico time to recover.

OOC: Round order
Shep - 17+1 = 18
Alfred - 10-2 = 8
Nico - Knocked down - Last
Shep launches forward, barely nicking Alfred, but spinning his massive body into the wall, leaving crushed plaster and splintered studs. He finds himself uncontrollably shaking, making operation of the Silver Eagle quite difficult. He manages to get ahold of himself as Alfred's meaty fist connects against his armored chest. (-2 MDC) Shep realizes that the inhumanly strong punch pushed him back a few steps, even in this power armor. Alfred lets out a full bodied, twitching, angry yell at him as he marches after Shep. He can tell that Nico is getting back up.
OOC2: First action of the first melee. I figured I'd give you the opportunity to call the rest of your actions (Total of 5 / one already used = 4 actions left) Yes, Both of Mazur's parents are now confirmed zombies.

Re: EOTC: The Living Nightmare - Shep
Shep’s boots skid back a couple of steps under the hit, armor servos whining as he forces the tremor out of his hands. He shifts deliberately down the hallway, keeping just enough distance to draw Alfred after him without exposing the survivors behind the door. Anything to choke down those wild, crushing swings—and to tighten the creature’s field of vision so Nico can come in from behind.
He plants his feet, breath steadying as he angles the Silver Eagle for a clean counterstrike the moment the massive shape surges into range again.
Actions:
1) Step back into the hallway—far enough to bait Alfred into the choke point, not far enough to endanger the survivors—and create an opening for Nico to re-engage from behind.
2+) Coordinate attacks with Nico to keep Alfred off balance and split its focus. Use standard punches aiming for the head when the opening is there [1d4 MD], parrying or dodging as needed to avoid additional hits. If enough actions and space remain at the end of the exchange, finish with a power kick 2d6MD to drive him back.

He plants his feet, breath steadying as he angles the Silver Eagle for a clean counterstrike the moment the massive shape surges into range again. Alfred takes the bait, menacing advancing towards Shep with his hands raised, almost in a boxer's stance. Shep notices that the zombie is rather slow, even though his punches are fast and powerful. He slams Alfred's chest with a straight jab, just like his father had shown him. Shep has never been great at boxing, barely learning the five main punches, jab being the most important. Alfred's chest produces a hollow crack upon impact, buckling him slightly. The zombie still swings back, projecting his intentions enough for Shep to choose to stuff his arm at the elbow and shoulder check him back towards Nico, who's appeared around the corner. OOC: Sorry, he was too close for a kick, but shoulder tackle works.
Nico's gauntleted hand grabs Alfred over his forehead from behind. With one swift motion, he yanks Alfred downward and backwards, followed by a stomp to the head, splintering the wooden floor while spreading Alfred's head across the hallway.
"Holy crap!" Nico cries out, "Apologies sir, I'll use more caution from this point on. These d-bee infections can mutate into something dangerous. May I suggest that we hurry and clear this building?"

Re: EOTC: The Living Nightmare - Shep
“No apology necessary, Lieutenant. Protecting lives comes first—we....They are going to have a lot of rebuilding to do when this is over anyway.”
Shep gives the hall a quick visual sweep, making sure nothing else is moving in the immediate perimeter. Once he's satisfied the space is momentarily secure, he gives Nico a firm nod.
“We’ll run a tandem sweep. Things are escalating, and I don’t want anything slipping past us toward the civilians. They’re safe enough in that office for now—as long as we keep this corridor clear.”
OOC: Were there any other rooms down that hallway that showed heat signatures or movement when Shep first scanned it?

"So, close the door, Shep!" Ret calls out.
"There's no way that that's Shep." Irina smacks him.
"Sure sounds... like him..." Corvus comments.
"That old man can barely catch a football, let alone operate a military grade suit of armor. Which I might add would get him killed by the military." Irina reinforces.
Nico turns the corner to the hallway, where he was originally headed before Alfred caught him, stepping over the young girl and Alfred's bodies. Shep hears him hit another zombie over the head.
OOC: Were there any other rooms down that hallway that showed heat signatures or movement when Shep first scanned it?
OOC reply: Not that he noticed. Although, thermals and especially infrared are sketchy at best through walls.

Re: EOTC: The Living Nightmare - Shep
“Dammit… thought Ret was handling that,” Shep mutters inside the helmet as he turns to follow Nico’s path. He switches the external speakers back on long enough to project his voice down the hallway where the survivors are clustered. His tone snaps into the kind of command that expects obedience on the first try: “Close and secure that door. Sit tight. We’ll be back for you once the rest of the building’s clear.” With that, he moves to catch up to Nico, keeping his sensors sweeping for anything the thermals might’ve missed.
