EOTC: The Living Nightmare - Shep
Re: EOTC: The Living Nightmare - Shep
"All clear." Shep quietly calls back up. "I don't know if the floor can handle another hard landing, though." He looks at the surroundings so he can give the lieutenant a quick rundown of options based on what he sees.
"No problem, sir!" As he jumps and engages his thrusters, just the same as Shep had. He kicks up papers and loose light objects, causing them to whip around the room, yet, he lightly lands on the floor and disengages his boosters. "Light as a feather... So is half of this room!" He comments on the debris finally settling in random locations around the now chaotic office.
Moments later, something slams against the office door, splintering it.

Re: EOTC: The Living Nightmare - Shep
Shep glances toward Niko and motions for him to take position on the handle side of the door. As Niko takes position, Shep steps to the opposite side, planting his feet and settling his weight into the Silver Eagle’s frame before doing one last thermal scan.
He reaches out and closes his gauntleted hand around the door handle—slow, controlled, making sure the armor’s servos don’t crush it prematurely. Then he looks across the doorway to Niko, waiting for the lieutenant’s ready signal. The moment Niko gives the nod, Shep holds up his other hand and does a quick three finger countdown and then yanks the door open in one smooth motion and immediately drops into a fighting stance, braced for whatever is about to come through.

He spots two roughly humanoid shapes trying to get through the door.

Immediately, Simon Brewster, Jack's father, and old Ms. Fleming barrel through the doorway and quickly rush past both Nico and Shep, their backs to both of them, peering around the room, as if looking for something.

Re: EOTC: The Living Nightmare - Shep
The fact that they came in so fast makes it unlikely that the three have ben infected, but Shep gives them a quick visual inspection as they pass and before his attention shifts immediately back to the hallway.
OOC: As long as Shep confirms the three are not infected:
He angles the Silver Eagle’s sensors down the corridor, watching for any movement or heat patterns. The memory of the earlier impact seems incongruous with three normal humans impacting the door. He keeps his voice low as he asks, “Anyone behind you?” One hand stays near the door, ready to move, while the other remains in a guarded position. His optics continue to scan the corridor as he waits for any sign of what might be out there.

They seem normal until thermals pop up. Their body temperatures are incredibly low... fatally low.
OOC: As long as Shep confirms the three are not infected:
OOC2: So sorry; it's actually only two. Simon Brewster is Jack's father. I worded it wrong.
He angles the Silver Eagle’s sensors down the corridor, watching for any movement or heat patterns. Nothing in the immediate line of site, but there are blobs of movement via thermals through a few walls. The memory of the earlier impact seems incongruous with two normal humans impacting the door. Ms. Fleming and Mr. Brewster turn, staring yellow-eyed at Shep. Ms. Fleming promptly and violently shoves against Shep's armor, breaking her wrist without flinching. Jack's father, Mr Brewster, stares into his faceplate, as though trying to sniff if he's alive.
Nico carefully and clandestinely motions to Shep on whether or not he is allowed to brain the two.

Re: EOTC: The Living Nightmare - Shep
Shep feels his breath hitch for half a second as the two turn toward him—the mindless rage, the violence, the wrongness in their eyes hits the same part of his brain that remembers blood and his father’s voice cutting off mid-sentence. .oO(Not here… keep it together. Focus.)Oo.
He forces his attention into the details—eyes, skin tone, how they’re standing—comparing it all against what he saw in Nova, looking for even the smallest trace of control or awareness. In a steady, normal tone for Carl’s receptors only, he says, “Carl, either of them showing anything like Nova did?”

"In the zombie aspect," Carl answers, "Yes... I'm not seeing any compassionate signs of intelligence otherwise."
Nico motions his hands, palms up, shrugging in a confused manner. Luckily, Mr. Brewster hasn't noticed him. Simon is a hulk of a man. Jack is large, but nothing like his father. Shep swears he could wager that the man could probably put a small dent in the armor if given the chance. Simon's animalistic yellow eyes seem to frantically search for something as he rapidly analyzes Shep's power armor. He then looks at Ms. Fleming, as though searching her for an answer, but then ignores her and continues staring at Shep, mainly his chest.
Nico sneakily points at Simon, then the mirror in the office, then at Shep's chest.

Re: EOTC: The Living Nightmare - Shep
Shep squints, trying to interpret Nico’s gestures. Maybe the Brewster zombie is mesmerized by the reflection in the Silver Eagle’s armor. He gives a subtle nod to Nico, signaling that he’s clear to engage--he keeps his own hands poised, ready to coordinate or intervene as needed, holding back until he’s sure of the right moment.

Without warning, Nico blares over the loudspeaker, "Hmmm, he doesn't know what to think of his own reflection!"
Simon spins to face him, but isn't fast enough to deal with the SAMAS' gigantic hand grasping his chin and hammer fisting him on top of the head. Causing Jack's zombie father to crumple to the floor. Ms. Fleming begins attacking the SAMAS, flopping her broken wrist and good hand against the chest of the power armor. Nico points down, "You get this one," as he pushes her aside, like a teenage boy with a toddler, to peer up the hallway and block the path.
From up the hallway, the echoing sounds of more zombies approach. Ms. Fleming leans her head back, opens her mouth and lets out an unearthly, echoing moan.

Re: EOTC: The Living Nightmare - Shep
Shep doesn’t flinch at the moan; if anything, it sharpens his focus. More of them coming this way means fewer threatening the people still hiding elsewhere. He steps in and reaches for the side of the creature’s neck — forcing himself to mentally separate the dead friends he once knew from the things standing in front of him — trying to lock her movement down. With the motion set, he drives a controlled armored punch toward her face, a fast, efficient strike meant to stop her before she can claw her way any closer.
