Dane gives Meg a small, crooked smile. “I, uh… haven’t actually tried the course yet. But if there’s still time, maybe I could give it a shot.” He nods toward the others. “We should definitely go support our town and cheer them on.”
He glances around the table, a little hesitant but curious. “Does anybody know what time the chess tournament is? I… wouldn’t mind entering, if there’s still time for that too.”

Megana looks around for a schedule, "To be honest, I'm unsure what time it starts."
Maya pipes up, "It already started, but you can jump in anytime before the elimination rounds."
Miss Hoffman laughs, "I'll try the obstacle course if you do. Just don't laugh when I fall."
Steve nods, "When you try, don't think about it, just do."
"Easy for you," Emily scoffs, "You dodge obstacles for a living."
Steve replies with a shrugs and slow nod, "Yeah, I guess you're right. But I still beat it. The climbing parts are a lot harder." He takes a long pull from his alcoholic cola as the food begins to arrive, looking well made for how busy it's been. Two waitresses manage to each bring a tray that emcompasses everyone's food, still steaming and smelling appetizing.
"Well then, let's hurry!" Sam grins. His grin promptly fades as if remembering something. He nudges Megana, "When do you have to work?"

“Alright… just don’t laugh if I wipe out,” he teases, glancing at Meg. He takes a sip of his vodka and cola, eyebrows lifting at the unfamiliar burn and sweetness. “Huh… that’s… actually pretty good, I think.” He tests the thought with another sip, then gestures toward the wings. “And these help. Solid combo for a first try.” Looking back at Meg, he adds, “After the obstacle course, I’m planning to jump into the chess tournament—if there’s still time,” before swallowing a half-chewed piece of chicken. OOC: Typical teenage boy.

"I suppose I could use the extra money too," Sam smiles, taking her hand and peering into her eyes.

"You play chess, Dane?" Miss Hoffman smirks, "I'll play you!"
Meanwhile, Dane and Megana, as well as Steve and Maya, notice Ingrid Lewis, with a raven haired girl, staring at Megana. The teenage girl seems like she wants to speak with Megana, but is unsure how to approach. Ingrid seems to be supporting her through something.

“Mostly just computer simulations,” Dane admits. “I know the mechanics… and some basic strategy. Guess we’ll see how well I do in a real game.” He doesn’t mention that he usually wins against the computer—because that’s not the same as playing a real person. Especially not a distractingly pretty one like Meg. He glances around the patio, scanning for a chessboard that they could use to squeeze in a quick game while they finish eating. As his gaze passes over the new girl he remarks "Hey Steve, friend of yours?" and gestures towards the girl with the raven hair.

Megana notices her as well as she tries to descern what the girl wants..."can i help you miss?" She asks as she leans back in her chair.

Steve reaches over and grabs a nice looking wooden chess board and slides it over to Dane and Miss Hoffman. She promptly begins setting up the pieces. Sam, Steve and Maya become more interested as Maya, once again, pulls out her camera and snaps a photo. Eventually, after the two set up the board, she grabs a black and white pawn each, holds them under the table and hides one in each hand. She presents them to Dane, "Pick one. No peeeeeking."
OOC: Awaiting Lysanthra to post, passing the pause off as shyness.

Re: Re: Rifts Dead Man's Hand - Festival Day - Dane
For a fraction of a second, a half-formed joke—something involving Peking duck—floats through Dane’s mind, then slips away. He’s distracted instead, held by her eyes a moment longer than he meant to be, the rest of the table fading until it’s just the two of them and the space between their hands. When he reaches out, it’s less a deliberate choice than an excuse, his fingers brushing the back of her left hand in a brief, gentle touch that lingers just a heartbeat too long. Not taking his eyes from hers, he softly says "I choose this one." The double entendre is not lost on him, as the words come out of his mouth and the analytical part of him hopes she notices, too. The emotional side is afraid she will…the alcohol dulling that fear just enough to make him bolder.
The raven-haired girl recedes to the edges of his awareness—not forgotten, but set aside, as Dane turns his attention back to the board, quietly hoping the game ahead lives up to the moment that led into it.
