Frank looks over at Johnny, "So do you want to do some practice runs to get our timing down?"

"I thought you'd never ask!" He laughs.
The two attempt practice run one realizing that they can synchronize their run, but Johnny is significantly faster than Frank. On attempt two, Johnny matches Frank's speed, only to trip and faceplant in the grass.
Before the two can attempt practice run three, the announcers call out for everyone to line up.

Re: Re: Rifts Dead Man's Hand - Festival Day - Francis
Frank heads to the starting line with Johnny. "I think we got this buddy." He then tries to calculate their odds of winning based off of who's competing.
Re: Re: Rifts Dead Man's Hand - Festival Day - Francis
Frank and Johnny return to the starting line, "I think we got this buddy." He scans the hundreds of people along the starting line trying to determine their chances, which is hard to tell. He knows that Johnny is incredibly fast, so if he could keep up in speed, then would have a better chance to achieve a win.
OOC: Please respond to post: Deadmans Hand - Festival Day - Three-Legged Race, I'll start the race and then we can get responses from each player on what they want to do.
OOC2: In respect to the race, how well each character does depends on a stat check against PP (physical prowess to coordinate steps) and Spd which is limited to the slowest runner. A failed roll results in one or both runners falling and losing ground to others. At the halfway point, any player may choose to increase their speed by doing a stat check with penalties (IE: a character with a speed of 10 would need to roll 10 or under to avoid falling under normal circumstances. The player could opt to roll with a penalty of +5 to their roll, which would require them to roll a 5 or under, to increase their speed to 15 (appr 300 yards per minute). The run is 100 yards across the grass to a rope, then back to the finish line. I will respond at 50 yard intervals with results based on decisions and outcomes.
OOC3: Historically running the three-legged races in tabletop games has resulted in much laughing because many will eat grass and get scrapes and bruises. Much cursing and making fun of others tends to occur. Feel free to talk trash and poke fun at others.

"See, I'm fast when I need to be just not as fast as you. I'm just glad you didn't fall off the course and get more than a few new bumps." Frank then does a quick victory shimmy before high-fiving Johnny. "Where else do you think we could win some prizes? Wait when are they doing the sack race do you know?"
"Uh, really soon. Right after the tug-o-war competition." Johnny replies, giving Frank a dry look at the falling off the course remark.
"Woah! You two can come up for air," Steve remarks to Megana and Sam, both of whom just ignore everyone to continue kissing.
Dane and Miss Hoffman also look like they're about to just undress right in the grass, until Dane's awkwardness ruins the moment as he tries to keep himself distracted with untying the well made knot holding them together. Frank swears he hears Miss Hoffman proposition Dane. Frank glances up and sees Teddy, standing next to Vi, look disappointed in the librarian. Frank remembers that Teddy and Meg had a romantic history, ruined by their age gap. Yet Dane is a little over a year younger than Teddy. Makes sense...
"Are we going or not?" Johnny urges.

"Yea let's head over there for that race," Frank says while heading that way. "Now here's to hoping if you go against me that you fall. I don't want to be second and you're faster than me." He says with a laugh. "Although.....that's just running I might be able to hop faster, but I want to try something I thought of earlier today. So if I fall feel free to laugh just not too hard."

"Oh... I will," Johnny chuckles. The two arrive at the starting line. Unfortunately, they only have fifty five sacks for racing, and Johnny and Frank are amongst the last five contestants to grab a sack. People are already practicing for the race. Some are trying the tactic that Frank is thinking of, but most fall over and skin their knees on the abrasive fabric. A few are testing out if hopping backwards would be faster, only for one of the prospective hoppers having to give up her spot after receiving a concussion from a nasty fall. Dr. Lewis is going to be busy.
Most of the racers are patiently waiting for Lord Stein to finish up with the latest rounds of tug-o-war to begin announcing the sack race.
OOC: Any preliminary preparations you want to make?

OOC: just mental prep and planning his route is all he's worried about race wise
Re: Re: Rifts Dead Man's Hand - Festival Day - Francis
Most of the racers patiently wait for Lord Stein, to finish up with the latest rounds of tug-o-war, to begin announcing the sack race. In the meantime, Frank attempts a few practice runs. His first attempt results in falling and feeling the same skinned knees that others had suffered. His second attempt is mildly successful, but feels slower than hopping. He realizes that it would take much more practice to make it actually work.
Eventually, Lord Stein walks over, carrying a fifty pound sack of potatoes. He doesn't need a bullhorn or microphone with speakers. His voice carries, even on the open grass range. "Everyone on your marks!" Johnny flashes Frank a mischievous grin. Lord Stein continues, "Get set!" Frank feels the adrenaline kick in. Johnny is already crouched. The butterflies in Frank's stomach are threatening to burst out. "GO!"
Johnny leaps way ahead of Frank with a single jump and continues doing it! The first fifty yards are easy for Frank. He's ahead of everyone! Except Johnny, who's several yards ahead, laughing!

"Are you part rabbit or something? How the hell are you hoppin that fast?" Frank yells over while trying to pass Johnny.
