Rifts Dead Man's Hand - Bottoms Up
Re: Rifts Dead Man's Hand - Bottoms Up
Megana observes the tensions escalate, ready for any excitement.
Frank observes Marty with a look of shock and amusement before saying in French, "Hey old man, what else can you do that you're not telling people?" After pondering whether or not Teddy can speak French if Marty can, he continues. "You see if you were a bit smarter you wouldn't have told me that you understood me over a comment so mild." Smiling with way more confidence than he should have; as Marty stops smiling at something outside, "Now I know you know what I'm saying. It might've been more beneficial to play that card at a later date." Switching back to English, "I suppose now you'll have to check my expression from now on to see if I'm just messing with you, or if I'm just saying it because I know you're listening. Sounds like it'll be fun to me but extra stress on you old man."
Marty doesn't even look back, "If you say so, expert." He raises his voice, "Sheriff, are there any age limits for the festivities tomorrow?"
"Nope," the sheriff replies.
Dane doesn't understand the words, but the tone doesn't sound good. He tries to be small and invisible and hopes it just blows over. oO(Can't we just enjoy a peaceful lunch?)Oo.
"Alright then," Marty replies, enjoying the warm sunshine, "Frank, if you and your friends are so smart, then enter the holdem tournament tomorrow." He takes a deep breath of the summer air, "This should be interesting," as he shuts the door behind him.
Johnny perks, "They'll let us in?"
"It costs 10 credits per entry." The sheriff pipes up, "Winner takes sixty percent of the pot. Second place takes ten percent. Third place gets only five percent. The rest goes to the school and church. It's for a good cause." He spins his chair to face the teens, "Heck Frank, I'll cover you and four of your friends, if you want. But, I get half of your winnings should any of you place in the top three." He nods, "Do we have a deal?"
Dane and Frank are both smart enough to know a good deal that benefits all, unless the sheriff doesn't win. Unless he wants to see the teens be humbled in not just a game of cards, but a game of reading tells, personalities and the strategy around the game itself. Miss Hoffman, still holding Dane's hand, slightly laughs as she comments, "Dane, you should enter. You love games."
Johnny grabs what's left of his fries and heads for the door, "Be back in a bit, guys. I'm gonna see if my dad has the credits!" He pauses near the door, glancing back at Frank. "Who's all in?"
OOC: Gambling is an amazing skill, but can be attempted, using IQ or MA (whichever is higher) as a base if the actual skill is unavailable. Interrogation is another great skill, to tell if someone is lying, nervous, excited, etc... Gambling allows the player to fake tells or disguise real ones, which can foil successful interrogation checks.

.oO Games are one thing, but gambling on one I barely know? Still… Meg wants me to. How am I supposed to say no to that? Oo. Dane thinks, weighing the risk.
“Yeah, I could give it a try,” he says after a moment. “Think the library’s got anything that could give me a quick crash course?”
Even as he speaks, he’s already sorting through what little he knows of the rules, piecing together odds and probabilities in his head. Bluffing feels like a losing strategy—too much social guesswork, too many variables he can’t control. Playing the numbers, though… that’s something he can trust, as long as he nails down the rules first.

OOC: A quick roll vs Dane's IQ: Pass - (even with his penalty to gambling) - He knows and understands the rules to poker and texas hold em in general. (mind you, if you don't personally, go look it up and shoot some questions in chat if you need to.)

OOC: What's the current year? (Sorry if I missed that in the introduction.)
Re: Rifts Dead Man's Hand - Bottoms Up
Megana shrugs non chalently. "Mmmm fine why not give it a try" as she looks up at frank and crosses her arms as she keeps a good eye on the location.

Frank accepts the deal excitedly, "Thanks sheriff, sounds like it'll be fun." Pausing to think about how Marty said that before continuing, "Now he's not some card shark from back in the day is he because this seems to be going a bit too smoothly." He shrugs it off. "Well if he is, I guess you're paying for a show no matter the outcome." Frank turns back around to watch the food cook and to check his mom's expression on whether she thinks I'm about to learn a leason and if she knew he spoke French. oO(I think this woman set me up there's no way she didn't know he spoke French, this is a small town after all. How the hell did I not know. These old timers still have some tricks I see)Oo

Brad considers the Sheriff's offer. He figures his odds of winning any of the prizes are pretty slim, but it could be fun, and as the Sheriff said, 25% of the take is going to the school and church regardless.
"I'll give it a shot, Sheriff, though honestly? I'd probably be lucky to even reach the finals. Is it one on one matches or group rounds?"

"Yeah, but I could teach you." Miss Hoffman seems excited. She looks at Frank's mom, "Could we borrow some used cards?"

Because this seems to be going a bit too smoothly." He shrugs it off. "Well, if he is, I guess you're paying for a show no matter the outcome."
The sheriff laughs, "Marty's okay. I can beat him." He glances at Angie as she gathers up a ratty looking pack of cards and frisbees them over to Dane and Miss Hoffman's table. It lands and spins to a stop, perfectly between Dane and Meg.
Frank turns back around to watch the food cook and to check his mom's expression on whether she thinks he's about to learn a lesson. "Frank," his mom addresses, "You and your posse should probably practice with them. You have a lot to learn."

"They're group rounds. You'll be lucky to make it out of the first round, kid. The point of it is to learn about the people around you and have fun above all." The sheriff replies, "Ask Frank who he's bringing in. Frank, pick four of your friends. But I'll warn you kids; cheating is not taken lightly. You understand?" He finally turns, revealing a very grim face. "Not very lightly indeed."

Vi looks at everyone and sees the excitement starting to ramp up, " hey I'll join the poker tournament. but I'm lacking a few things."
vi laughs at her own stupidity but looks forward to the game.
" But I do have a question tho guys, is teddy going To join the game or is he banned before he loses his shirt?? "
