Description:Tyran is a young boy, just 14 years of age. His shoulder length, brown hair is pulled back in a short ponytail, revealing a young, thin face with deep-set, brown eyes. Standing at just over 4½ feet, he doesn’t seem to weigh much more than 100 pounds. A dirty leather tunic and pants appear under a dark, sooty cloak, which appears to have been torn or slashed in a number of places. His face and arms are similarly smeared with dirt and soot, with the exception of the trails leading from his eyes down his cheeks, showing the path that his recent tears must have taken. In direct contrast to the dirt and filth on the boy, a polished gold chain hangs around his neck, with a large silver cross dangling from it.
****************************
The young boy shivers, and tiny dewdrops collide and roll off his blanket. Slowly, he awakens, a small moan escaping his lips. He stands, carefully favoring his right forearm; where a small scratch is the only evidence of the desperate battle fought only hours earlier. He had been lucky …had the stalker not been hunting alone, the previous day could well have been his last. His situation was desperate… he had to find civilization soon.

How many days had it been since he was left alone on this world; cold, hungry, wet, and confused? His grandfather had gone insane, folks whispered, after Tyran’s parents had died. The circumstances of their death were suspicious at best, and the old mage Toryth was thought to be at fault. But it was best not to meddle in another’s business, and so the locals simply steered clear of the crazy old hermit, leaving him alone to practice his evil magic’s while his grandson lay awake in bed, scared to death after yet another nightmare. ‘That poor child,’ the village women would whisper to each other in the kitchen, before steering the conversation towards more interesting gossip, such as Terrance Lindol’s forbidden affair with the nymph who lived in Sydor’s clearing… His grandfather had gone insane. This, Tyran now knew.

He had seen it in his grandfather’s eyes during the ritual. The old fool had actually believed he was powerful enough to control the evil monstrosity he had summoned. It had gone wrong right from the start; and as Tyran watched, the old man had soon found himself bargaining for his life. And it was soon apparent that that was lost too, which is when his grandfather struck the deal that would change Tyran’s life forever… He forfeited his soul, and in exchange the demon granted his shifter abilities to his grandson Tyran, so that the boy would be able to continue his grandfather’s life’s work…

It had been too much for Tyran, decades of wisdom suddenly flowing into his mind with no prior warning. Tyran could only remember a flash of pain, and then everything went black. How much time passed, he could not tell. When he awoke, he found himself lying unharmed admits the charred remains of his grandfather’s home … the entire village had burned to the ground around him.

Inside, Tyran knew he had been changed. He could feel the mystic energy around him as he shivered, and knew he could now bend and shape it at will. He still hadn’t discovered the full extent of his abilities … but he knew they would make themselves apparent when needed. If anything, the past few days had taught them that. It was as if a small part of his grandfather was still there with him … guiding him … teaching him …

It had been something of a shock when Tyran finally cast his first spell. He hadn’t really thought about it; the words simply appeared in his mind and were out of his mouth before he knew it. Another spell followed, and the words were permanently etched into Tyran’s memory as if they had always been there. He found the ability both frightening and strangely exciting. His old life was over, and a strange new one had just begun… Currently: Shy, reserved, frightened, and confused. Once he begins to realize the extent of his new abilities, however, a bolder, more confident Tyran will begin to emerge. He had always been somewhat ostracized in his village, and found it very hard to make friends. However, because of this, those few friends he does make become friends for life.

All things aside, Tyran is still a kid at heart (even if his mind is otherwise). Energetic, fun-loving, and a bit of a prankster; he will be cheerful and outgoing once he finds a group he can adopt as ‘family’ … However, deep inside, his troubled past is sure to gnaw away silently, occasionally rearing it’s ugly head. His ‘gift’ has resulted in a insatiable curiousity about magic and the supernatural … his ‘adult’ intellect is in a constant struggle with this childhood curiosity; which is bound to get him into trouble sooner or later.

Payton is a member of the local tribe, which inhabits the remains of Fort Union, now known as Camp Union. He's an accomplished tribal warrior who's respected, even though he spends most of his time teasing others, especially his little brother, Ant. He truly loves his brother, light pranks and playful teasing seem to be his only way to show his affection.

Trevor is a trapper who's spent his entire life carrying on his families tradition of maintaining Camp Buford and trading goods with passerbys and other trappers. He even trades with the tribe at Camp Union on occasion but tries his best to steer clear of tribal politics. His best friend is Winnie, his golden retriever. He's welcoming to any respectable traveler or trader.

Once or twice a year, a local Justice Ranger, known as Rafael Demore, comes to check on him and keep things in order. Trevor's never needed his intervention, but his company is highly welcome.
