EOTC: Z Day
Re: EOTC: Z Day
Mazur pauses, looking back into her eyes. "Really? Are you sure, Beth?" he asks quietly, with a slight air of wonder. "Well, okay ... um ... yes!" he answers.
He then gives her a bit of a shove away from him. "You and me. At least once before we die. I'm going to hold you to that ... are you available next Saturday?"
He then grabs a nearby shovel and thrusts it into her hand. "But right now, we've got more important things to do ... because we aren't going to die today. Now dig!"

For a brief moment, she looks dumbfounded, but quickly snaps out of it as Mazur uses the garden hoe that he found to scrap dirt away from the wall. She seems to snap out of it as she shoves the shovel into the dirt. Mazur notices that it seems quiet outside of the shed, for now. Eventually, between the two, they get a hole dug revealing daylight beneath the rear wall of the shed. Before Mazur can do or say anything, Beth grabs Mazur and forcibly kisses him; a teary-eyed smile from ear to ear.

Okay, so what's the situation outside with Reggie, Ryan and Irina? Other than "unsuccessful"?
And I made sure to click the button so this isn't being sent to the Group.

OOC: Well, Ill start a separate thread. The three are running from the creature (reminiscent of a raised dead) and it's chasing. The three of you are obviously faster, but it doesn't give up. Ill get a post out shortly.

Re: EOTC: Z Day
Mazur pauses a moment after the kiss, a slight tilt to his head as he processes ... before hesitantly (but not insincerely) responding "Um ... thank you".
Then refocusing on the task at hand, he drops to his hands and knees in order to peer out the hole in each direction; checking for any sign of danger.
They couldn't stay outside. The roofs would likely be safe if they could get up to them, but they'd be rather visible. They'd need some weapons ... and judging from the comments made outside just before the other three turned tail, it was going to take some serious firepower to take the creature's down.
Mazur ponders for a moment ... they needed to make their way to someone's house, barricade themselves inside, and find something they could use to defend themselves. These garden tools simply weren't going to cut it. Who's place was closest? His father was well connected; and Mazur figured he could should be able to find a little better than this hammer and hoe to defend himself with at home ... then again, Reggie's dad was the Sheriff; and they was bound to be something there. Or maybe Shep's place ... the old man was well traveled, perhaps he might have an idea as to how best to survive this attack.
But Mazur was slow at the best of times, and a bad ankle wasn't going to help him travel any faster. And he figured Beth was likely to freeze up in terror again if they happened to bump into one of those creatures. "Well, you don't have to be faster than the creature, just faster than ..." he thinks to himself, but stops short; realizing the thought itself was too cruel to consider, even for him.
OOC: Will pause here ... but wondering, are things clear outside? And Is there any suitable house (of the ones I mentioned, or any other of the better off townsfolk who's homes would be likely to net them something more than some rusty garden tools to defend themselves with) nearby for them to temporarily hole up in ... and, frankly, loot?

OOC: Also ... how far away is the library that they were told to gather at?

Then refocusing on the task at hand, he drops to his hands and knees in order to peer out the hole in each direction; checking for any sign of danger. It seems rather quiet in the immediate area. The acrid smell of a fresh fire and subsequent smoke reaches his nose. The sounds of gunfire not too far away break through the sounds of distant engines of motorcycles or four-wheelers. A vehicle seems to be tearing through the streets taking some crazy corners. Screams and much yelling coming from all directions. The wall of another building is only 2 feet away from the hole. If Mazur and Beth were as athletic as the other guys, then they could probably easily get to the roof, Mazur is doubting both his own and Beth's athleticism.

Mazur knows that the library is roughly five streets up and two streets over. The best place to get formidable weapons is probably Reggie's house, which is too far of a distance considering the situation. The second best place would be the sheriff's office, which is about 4 streets up and 1 street over. The local market store may have some good makeshift weapons, but that's right next to the library. Then there is the house that Mazur could almost currently reach out and touch, outside of this hole he dug under the shed. On the far side of the house is the town garage, owned by Jack's father. Mazur could only imagine what tools could be re-purposed as weapons; air compressors, giant wrenches, hammers, drills, steel circular saws for metalwork, a fancy laser torch and plasma welder, not to mention a power washer. It can't be more than 100 feet away to the side door!

Re: EOTC: Z Day
Mazur stands back up. "Okay, Beth ..." Mazur states, looking directly up at her. "We're going to make a break for the garage, where we'll be better able to defend ourselves. It's just on the other side of this house, no more than forty or fifty steps. I'll go first; you stay close behind me. Move fast, but stay close to the buildings, in order to avoid attracting attention. Once at the garage, we'll grab some better tools to protect ourselves. All clear? Ready?"
After getting Beth's confirmation, Mazur drops down, checks again for any danger, and then climbs out into the narrow alleyway between the buildings; taking both the rope and sledgehammer with him. After coaxing Beth out and helping her to her feet, he limps over to the corner of the building and peers around it, checking out the situation in the street and re-assessing their chances of making it to the garage safely and unseen.

Beth nods enthusiastically, her eyes drill into Mazur's, dilated with desire. Her obnoxiously dyed, purple and pink ends dancing over her shoulders. It's difficult to ignore her horribly trimmed hair unless he just peers directly into her eyes, which, with Beth, could lead to much more.
Mazur drops down assuring nothing dangerous. He climbs out into the narrow passage; dragging the rope and sledgehammer with him. Beth clammers behind the hammer. He helps her up then limps over to the corner of the building and peers around it. He feels Beth place her delicate hand on his shoulder. Scanning the street, both ways, Mazur sees another body, lying prone, roughly two hundred feet away. The skull has been smashed like a melon into the walkway. The corpse's head is so badly crushed that it's nearly impossible to identify who it was. Other than the sounds of gunfire, vehicles speeding and the various screams echoing from all over town, the street looks clear. Her hand slides away from his shoulder. Mazur feels a tug on the rope. Glancing back reveals Beth coiling the rope around her wrist and smiling fondly at him. "I'm ready."

"Then let's go!" Mazur whispers, leading the way.
He rounds the corner, his usual dwarven waddle slightly exaggerated as he babies his injured ankle. He lets out a wince on one particularly painful step, as they make their way around the building towards the garage ... carefully checking around the next corner before stepping into the alleyway hosting to the garage's side door.
"Please be open ..." he mutters to himself before testing the doorknob.
