Re: Darl
"Somehow I don't think you are frightened by the visage. What you see is as much me as the pretty face that is under the mask. If they are afraid of me or not, I am sorry about their discomfort. I will protect them if I am able. I am not one to hold somebody's appearance against them. Still, as you might know, I once served the Unholy. I would like your assurance that you do not work with the Unholy or are a servant of evil," the woman behind the mask responds to Darl.

"I don't mean to offend ... perhaps it's just that, as someone who isn't blessed with the same option, I'm a little more sensitive to the impact my own visage has on the humans around me."
"As for who I serve, for the moment I am serving ... um ... this man here, helping to offload his burden," he states, gesturing to the old man. "I'm sorry sir, but I'm afraid I didn't get your name!"
Getting the man's response, he turns back to the Apok and adds, "Outside of that, I suspect I am much like you ... I serve no other master but my own self."

Re: Darl
"Ah, I didn't tell you my name? How rude of me. Are you sure?" the old man looks a little bewildered. "My name's Willard."
Jonesy looks startled for a moment and then peers closer at the old man "Uncle Willard, is that you? It is you! What the devil are you doing all the way up here in Chisel Town?"
"Aye, what?" The old man responds and steps forward to try to get a better look "Jonesy? Jonesy, is that you my boy? I thought you were in Newhome still. How's Sansa and what have you gotten yourself into? You better not have gotten my niece into trouble!"
"The mask is part of my and reminds me of the evil that was in my soul so that I never forget," The Apok responds, ignoring the conversation between her companion and the old man.
Taking a deep breath, she continues "My apologies. I do not want to cause offense but I take the duty I took on seriously. We both have reputations which precede us. I see myself in service of Wormwood and the universe in general, to fight the dark where I can."
Pausing, she asks, "Do you need any help with the wagon? I can afford a few minutes to help."

Pausing, she asks, "Do you need any help with the wagon? I can afford a few minutes to help."
Darl steps out from between the wagon's arms. "If you wish," he states. "Our friend here is headed to the cathedral. I fear that I do not know the way; and suspect that my welcome there would be even colder than that I recieved here," he adds with a sideways grin. "You, at least, would be less likely to end up attacked on sight," he jokes.
Turning to the old man and his nephew, he looks for an opportunity to jump into their conversation. "So you're from Newhome, you say ... do you happen to know John and Harvey? They arrived here late last night ... I ran into the rest of their travel party yesterday, and am supposed to pass along a message for them."

It appears to be resin formed with two wheels in the rear and two peg legs in the front to balance while at rest. It is designed to be pulled using the two handles sticking out the front.
"After the Confessor, I don't think the Cathedral would react very well to my presence," The Apok answers, a thoughtful tone in her voice that seems detectable even though her mask.

With a bit of surprise, Jonesy looks to his companion to see how she would like to respond.
Under her mask, the blond haired Apok bites her lip. Honesty though is the best idea in her mind. "They should have passed through the gates before me. They did seem pretty jumpy around an Apok, something neither of you seem to be." She seems mildly surprised at how easily the Darl and his companion are taking her presence.
"Apok! Where?" The old man pipes up and peers around with gray, milky eyes.
Darl sees over the top of the Apoks head the approach of a half dozen city guards. Further down and through the gates he sees what could be a Wormspeaker approaching as well. It appears that their presence is causing a bit of unwanted attention. At the current pace, the guards will be on them in under two minutes.

Re: Darl
Darl pauses for a moment, slightly confused ... as the Apok's words settle in.
"You mean ... you do know them? And you talked to them before they entered last night?" he asks ... trying hard to contain his excitement at this continued bit of good fortune. He didn't remember seeing the Apok in his viewing the night before, but then again, he wasn't exactly looking for *her* at the time. But if they had conversed, and his quarry entered the city shortly before her ...
... but that wasn't right, he realized. The two had snuck in just as the gates were closed, hadn't they!
Darl stares past the Apok at the guards approaching as he awaits her response ... looked like he still had time for one or two questions before the local militia would arrive to interrupt them.

Re: Darl
"No, I would not say I know them," she responds. "I met them but briefly with the exception of an armored warrior named Dan. I spoke with him a bit longer."
Noticing that she might not have been understood, "I only met them, with the exception of Dan, this morning when they were on their way out of the city."
The Apok notices as well the guards coming in their direction, "I think it would be best if we cut this short. The guards are probably trying to figure out what nefarious plots that we might be coming up with."

Re: Darl
Darl ignores the comment about the guards, still digesting her first two statements.
"This morning?" he asks, somewhat confused. "Dan?"
Gesturing with a thumb over his shoulder behind him, he adds, "You mean *THAT* Dan? Just now?"

Re: Darl
Not really waiting for her answer, Darl turns his head and starts trying to scan the crowd in the tall armoured beasts direction; looking for two men who fit the proper descriptions walking with the beast. Suddenly, he feels much more anxious about the guards currently closing in on them ... if he was really this close to those who had the orb, the last thing he wanted now was a military detainment and questioning!
If the Apok responds affimatively, he will state, "Well, I really should pass on my message before they leave!" he states. "I'm afraid a young child's life may depend on it," he adds, going with his existing background story rather than taking the time to come up with a new one.
Assuming he can still pick Dan out above the rest of the crowd, Darl looks back at the apok with a much more serious look on his face and tone in his voice. Quietly, he adds, "I'll have to explain later ... but if there should be any trouble, no matter how it looks, rest assured that I *AM* on your side," before preparing to turn and try to make his way through the crowd towards Dan ... and hopefully the orb.
Almost unconsciously, one clawed hand reaches down and snatches up a small handful of the farmer's mushrooms ...

Re: Darl
Before Darl can get away, the Apok holds up her hand for a moment, "A child's life might be in danger? What might I be able to do to help?" Her whole attention is on the next words Darl might say.
